The camp rests in the eastern part of the Sierra Nevada mountain range, and it sits in an open meadow at an elevation of 7,600 feet. The facility has a number of amenities to make your stay more comfortable: you’ll find campfire rings, drinking water, flush toilets, food storage lockers, and picnic shelters. The campsite’s meadows are lined with aspen trees, and McGee Creek runs along side it, creating a truly magical setting to camp in. 

And you will have plenty of ways to fill your time for the duration of your stay. You can go hiking, as there are a number of trailheads within walking distance of the campsite. The John Muir Wilderness is also close by, and it provides a great opportunity to hike and observe the wildlife and plant species native to the Sierra Nevada mountains. If you’re interested in fishing, you can head to McGee Creek or Crowley Lake, both of which are close to the campsite.

There are a couple of things you should be aware of when you are planning your trip to McGee Campground. Remember that you are in an active bear area, so proper precautions should be taken — make sure your food is securely stored and disposed of. Also note that this campsite is located at a high elevation, so be cautious if you are coming from a lower elevation.
