Perhaps the most notable one that features the breed is the 2009 comedy film The Shaggy Dog. The film was actually a remake of a 1959 Disney film of the same title. In the original, however, the titular character was played by an Old English sheepdog while the remake features a Bearded Collie. The premise of the film involves a lawyer who can transform into a dog, in the form of a Beardie.

In the film, the main character Dave Douglas is the district attorney for the Los Angeles County and is working on a case against a teacher for suspicion of bombing a pharmaceutical company, Grant and Strictland, which the defendant denies. In fact, he is accusing the corporation of conducting illegal animal experimentation.

As the film goes on, it is discovered that the geneticists working for the corporation are indeed engaged in such activity. They have stolen a 300-year old dog from a Tibetan monastery. The dog, named Khyi Yang Po, is a Bearded Collie. The scientists are trying to figure out the reason why the dog is able to live that long and how that component can be transferred to humans. Khyi Yang Po, however, was able to escape and was found by Carly, who brings the dog home.

Khyi Yang Po’s presence in the Douglas household marks the start of crazy adventures. It began when Dave was bitten by the dog while trying to get the newspaper. In the course of the next few days, Dave starts to transform into a dog whenever usual dog activities are performed around him, such as throwing sticks in the air. To find answers to his condition, he tries to figure out the events going on inside Grant and Strictland. Eventually, he was able to prove the wrongdoings of the suspects and brought them to justice. His whole ordeal also helped him repair his relationship with his family and they adopt Khyi Yang Po as their dog. The film ends with the family, and the dog, vacationing in Hawaii.

While The Shaggy Dog is one of the few films starring a Beardie, the breed has made an appearance in a few other films such as Agent Cody Banks, Daniel and the Superdogs and Hotel for Dogs.
