Dog Names that Start with Oc

There are thousands of dogs in pop culture that people name their new family additions after. It can be quite helpful to explain to people that your new dog Marley came from the movie Marley and Me. It’s an ice breaker in a vet’s waiting room, that’s for sure! Therefore, when the time comes to look for dog names that start with "Oc", it’s not a silly idea to look for the same connection.

However, as it turns out, dog names that start with "Oc" are not that common, and you may find you end up focusing on dog-like creatures that appeared in pop culture as opposed to an actual dog. Such an example is Occy, a dog-like octopus that spends its entire life living like a dog, from the 1989 American-Belgium animated TV series Snorks. Occy is a magenta octopus with yellow eyes and eight tentacles.

Even though Occy is not a dog, he thinks he is, and that can be enough to convince you to give your dog the same name. Snorks shot to fame in September of 1985 and ran for four seasons and 65 episodes. It ran until 1989, with Occy the Octopuppy played by Frank Welker a standout character.

Junior the Snork owned the Octopuppy, Occy, who was born in Snorkland. Junior tried to train him as an attack dog, but Occy wouldn’t follow his orders. For example, when Junior told him to shred a newspaper, he retrieved it then glued the ripped pieces back together.

Occy met Allstar when he was “guarding” Junior’s locker. He got stuck in coral and Allstar helped him out. Occy then saved Allstar from a snorkeater, but Junior abandoned Occy for not obeying his commands. Allstar then adopts Occy.

Occy is a kind, caring Octopuppy who’s loyal to Allstar and now growls at Junior when he sees him. When he finds himself in a dangerous situation, he releases black ink. He’s a successful keyboarder, bounces eight basketballs at once, and his favorite foods are kelp cakes, steak, and seaburgers.

Occy the Octopuppy is the main character in the first two seasons of the TV show Snorks but appears less often in seasons three and four. In those first two seasons, the other characters also refer to him as an Octopuppy, but in the latter two, they call him a Dogfish.  

Occy may not be a dog in pop culture in the traditional sense, but his characteristics, ability to retrieve and loyalty to his second owner Allstar means he’s as much a dog as any other in the animated TV world.
