Dumbo is born into a family of circus elephants, and he is different because of his ears. These elephant ears seem to be disproportionate for the size of such a small animal, and the sweet little elephant is given the name Dumbo. Arthur

Arthur Wilde is an actor who will be featured in the 2019 version of the Dumbo film. However, one rather famous dog named Arthur not only seemed to participate alongside a group of people he did not know in a rigorous adventure race, but the once homeless dog trekked a total of 6,455 miles in order to become a member of a family.

First, one should understand what the premise is behind the Adventure Racing World Championship. This survival style race places individuals in extreme conditions in a number of activities. Participants may be on foot hiking, or they may be climbing; they might be on a bicycle or they might be kayaking across rivers. The competition lasts ten days, and, in this particular story, the race took place in Ecuador. A team from Sweden appeared to be the team to beat in 2014. For a stray who would later be named Arthur, the Swedish team was also the team to join.

On Day Four (out of Ten), the Swedish team was greeted by a dog that appeared to be homeless. He was in poor condition; his fur was matted and he appeared injured. He had a large wound on his back; however, he approached the members of the team without fear. One member of the team gave the then-nameless dog a Swedish meatball, and the dog fell in love with the team immediately. While no one intentionally invited the dog to follow them, it was apparent rather quickly that the dog intended to follow them wherever the adventure took them. The team then nicknamed the dog Arthur, as in King Arthur of legend.

The Swedish team was accompanied by Arthur on land as long as the race was on foot. The team thought that Arthur would leave them once the race entered the water. However, when they climbed into their kayak to complete a thirty-four mile water course, Arthur jumped into the water and paddled behind them. The team soon stopped long enough to grab Arthur and place him in the kayak as well. Arthur would later finish the race with the Swedish team.

The team member who first fed Arthur, Mikael Lindford, decided he did not want to leave Arthur. However, both the Ecuadorian government and the Swedish government would have to work out a way for Lindford to bring Arthur to Sweden. Eventually, Lindford was allowed to bring Arthur home to Sweden.

Dumbo Dog Name Considerations

What type of dog would be suited to a name inspired by the classic Disney film Dumbo? Dumbo is the story of an elephant - what could an elephant's story possibly have to do with a dog? First, one should remember that there are dog breeds associated with the circus. In particular, Poodles were trained for decades to perform entertaining tricks for the circus audience. In fact, the grooming of the standard Poodle - the elaborate tufts of hair on their head and tail - goes back to their time as circus performers. While there are no Poodles with speaking parts in the Dumbo film, we can most certainly associate the breed with the circus; therefore, Poodles might be well-suited for a Dumbo-inspired name.
