Farm Collie Dog Names

The name Farm Collie Dog can be misleading as it refers to a wide range of Collie type dogs, rather than a breed. Take Lassie as an example; a Rough Collie named Pal played a part in the fictional story created by Eric Knight. A television series followed the story of Lassie in her adventures with both human and animals. The show was based on a small farming community which was home to a boy (Tommy Rettig)  and his dog. Lassie began with Pal and thereafter five of his male descendants played the role over the following years. Lassie was the classic good looking Rough Collie and was highly intelligent. Lassie rescued all types of animals and people from many situations. In 1956, Campbells Soup, who sponsored the entire nineteen-year run of Lassie, held a competition called 'Name Lassie's Puppies' and offered the grand prize being one of Lassie's puppies and $2000. Never before had a dog created such a following and the show is still remembered to this day. When you think Lassie, you think loyal, devoted, intelligent and extraordinary! 

Buddy is an English Shepherd and is a young dog learning the skills of managing cattle. This dog is an eager beaver, always ready to 'help' his owner, whether that be in the paddocks with stock, or digging in the garden. He has been known to stand up to stroppy cattle, chase coons, and even stood up to a bear. Luckily the owner came out and the bear took off, but Buddy wasn't backing down. He also alerted his owner, who was wandering near some bushes, about a large agitated copperhead snake. Thanks to Buddy's warning, his owner was warned and avoided a confrontation. This dog has initiative and thinks for himself, making him an excellent stock dog and a great companion. 

Hero, the Border Collie, is one smart dog. He can walk on his front legs, jump rope and dance, and can do a ton of acrobatic tricks that will astound you. Trainer Sara Carson has trained four Border Collies to be part of her Super Collies Act. Hero and Sara placed fifth in America's Got Talent's 12th season! Not only that, but Hero has featured in commercials for the Pet Network, and for Petco. Both Sara and Hero performed in the NWSS Xtreme Dog Show doing aerial stunts and comedy antics. She says the dogs love the challenge, it keeps their minds focused and they are easier to control. It takes patience and perseverance to train a dog to the high standard that Sara has achieved. Not bad for the Farm Collie Dog - which includes the Border, Welsh, Bearded, Kelpie, Rough and Smooth Collies, Australian Shepherd, and English Shepherd.
