Fraggle Rock Dog Names

Jim Henson’s world of Fraggle Rock is populated by several different species of muppets that reside underground in a series of interconnected caves that have exits into our world through a hole in the wall. In most cases, this hole leads to the workshop of Doc, an eccentric inventor, although in France he is a chef, and in Britain, he is a lighthouse captain referred to as “The Captain.” In all versions of the show, the man’s best friend is a shaggy muppet dog who is highly intelligent and observant. 

The dog’s name is Sprocket, except in France, where he was given the name Croquette instead, and while he doesn’t speak in any human languages, he is quite effective at getting his point across utilizing a combination of barks, facial expressions, and pantomimed actions. Doc relies on Sprocket for help with inventions, household chores, and sometimes on the repair of the water pipes that are integral to the lives of the fraggles living below. While Doc is generally clueless about the fraggles living below him, Sprocket often encounters Gobo Fraggle when he retrieves postcards from his Uncle Travelling Matt, a fraggle explorer who travels throughout our world, referred to by the fraggles as Outer Space. Matt has the postcards delivered to Doc who thinks that they are simply misdirected and throws them into the trashcan where Gobo rescues them. While Doc is unaware of the presence of the fraggles through most of the show, Sprocket encounters Gobo, and seeing this strange creature as a threat, tries to alert his master, who remains clueless. 

Later, Sprocket gets his head stuck in the hole that Gobo uses to enter the workshop, and when he is assisted by Gobo, he stops viewing the fraggles as a threat and instead befriends them. He actually digs into the caves of Fraggle Rock twice once when the floorboards were pulled up in the workshop and once by digging through a snow heap while on a walk with Doc. During his first adventure in Fraggle Rock, Sprocket meets several other fraggles, knocks over several doozer buildings, originally alarming the doozers, and is even introduced to Marjorie the Trash Heap, who speaks fluent dog. In his second foray into Fraggle Rock, he accompanies Gobo and Wrench Doozer on a trip to a place known as Greyrock Ridge and when Wrench becomes buried in an avalanche of cereal, its Sprocket who saves him.
