Dix Ford is an area, and subdivision, located centrally along a commercial corridor in Lincoln Park, Michigan. Ford Street, which runs through the region, is easily accessible to area residents traveling on foot. This main thoroughfare is lined with businesses such as a pharmacy, a deli, fast food restaurants, unique eateries, and a variety of shops and services that can be reached by pedestrians in the area.

This area of Michigan experiences all four seasons so when residents take their dogs for walks in the area, they run into a variety of different weather. Lincoln Park gets an average amount of rainfall per year with thunderstorms and showers occurring mostly in spring and summer.  Winters are cold and temperatures often fall below the freezing mark. Lincoln Park also gets more than the national average of snowfall. Winter boots and a warm winter coat are must-haves on daily walks with your pooch in the Dix Ford community.
What is the terrain like in Dix-Ford (Dix-Ford Subdivision)?
Dix Ford occupies the area around Ford Street, a four-lane, divided, commercial corridor with a grassy berm and some landscaping between the north-south traffic lanes. Dix Ford is situated south of Progress Avenue and north of Merrill Avenue and has flat terrain, so pedestrians and their pups do not have a hard time going for leisurely strolls in the area with no steep hills to climb.

The residential area consists of single-family homes. Large shade trees in the area provide beautiful fall colors and shade in the summer. Residential areas do not have back alleys or lanes so driveways and garages are located off the street fronts on residential properties. When you are walking with your dog in the area, watch out for residents that are backing out of driveways that intersect pedestrian paths. Drivers cannot always see a dog on a leash, when they are low to the ground, so keep your dog close to you.
How many greenways are there in Dix-Ford (Dix-Ford Subdivision)?
Two parks are located directly south of the Dix Ford area and both are triangular in the layout. Memorial Park is the closest and this green park has sprawling lawns and large trees with paved pedestrian greenways running across the park in several locations. Memorial Park is a great park to rest in the shade with your pooch on a hot summer day.

Just a few blocks further south is Ford Park. This park also has lawns, trees, and pathways for walking your dog. Ford Park also has some recreational facilities including baseball diamonds. Remember to keep your dog leashed and off athletic fields.

A larger greenway lies to the east. Council Point Park has athletic fields and a large looped paved pathway that borders the Ecorse River in some areas, making a great spot for a stroll with your pup and a view of the water, although you may need to drive there to access this greenway.
