Introduction

A little bigger than a Beagle and a little smaller than a Harrier, the Beagle Harrier is a perfect blend of these two parent breeds. Lovable and playful, easy going and even tempered, the Beagle Harrier is the ideal pet. While they can be energetic when outside, ready to utilize their hunting skills, they will be pretty relaxed when at home. However, that doesn't mean you should forget about that cute pup lounging around on the dog bed! These activities will make your dog the happiest pooch on the block!

Activity description
Beagle Harriers have an amazing sense of smell thanks to both their Beagle DNA and their Harrier background. Both breeds are fantastic tracking and hunting dogs and this is something that is then ingrained in the dog for life - they just need to use that nose! If you can't exactly take your Beagle Harrier out hunting every day, these simple activities will let your dog use their incomparable sense of smell in fun new ways. You can do all of these activities inside or out, no matter the weather and the only cost is the price of a few treats! Doesn't get much better than that.
Step
1
Pick a hand
Put a treat in one hand and then close your hands into fists, hiding the treat inside just one hand. Hold both closed hands out in front of your Beagle Harrier and see if your pup can sniff out which hand has a treat inside. Chances are, they will be correct on the first guess! That Beagle Harrier nose is no joke.
Step
2
Treat search
Grab some of your dog's favorite treats and let them see what treasures you are holding. Then, have your Beagle Harrier sit and stay in one room while you hide a few of their treats around the house. Come back to your dog (who hopefully is waiting patiently!) and tell them to go find their prize! It won't take long for your dog to sniff out exactly where all the treats are.
Step
3
New pet
Have a friend who owns a dog or cat rub a clean towel on their pet to pick up its scent. Take the pet scented towel back to your house and hide it. See how long it takes for your Beagle Harrier to put their nose to the ground and start sniffing for the "new pet" in the house. Your pup will be surprised when all they find is a towel!

Activity description
The Beagle Harrier breed is one that is calm and composed even in the most stressful situations. Thanks to the good nature of this pup, they make fantastic therapy dogs. While it takes a little bit of effort to train your Beagle Harrier to be a therapy dog, the benefits are endless. Your pup will get to visit hospitals, nursing homes and children centers, bringing smiles to the faces of those who need it the most. Your dog will also love being the center of attention, getting lots of love and affection. You can start training your dog any time of year and the investment of time and money will be well spent.
Step
1
Certification
Find a dog school or specific dog therapy classes where you can bring your Beagle Harrier to be trained as a therapy dog. Your classes will likely take several months and end with a certification declaring you and your dog as official therapy providers. This certification is necessary as many locations will not allow therapy dogs to enter a facility unless they have proof of training.
Step
2
Practice
While you are earning your certification and even after your Beagle Harrier has been officially trained to be a therapy dog, practicing the skills they learned is important. Letting other people pet them, staying calm in crowds and basic obedience are all things your pup will need to do when they are practicing pup therapy. Keep focusing on these skills at home to help your Beagle Harrier stay focused and well trained.
Step
3
Schedule visits
You can choose to work with a dog therapy center which will dispatch you and your Beagle Harrier to locations in need of a therapy dog. You can also try to find places on your own who would like you and your dog to visit. No matter how you go about planning your dog therapy sessions, schedule as many as you can! Everyone will benefit greatly from meeting your Beagle Harrier so you want to be sure to spread the love around as much as possible.

Activity description
Despite their calm demeanor at home, Beagle Harriers need a lot of exercise to keep them happy. After all, this breed does come from a long line of hunting dogs who would run for hours at a time chasing their prey. This energy is still inside of those little dogs who are recommended to get about an hour of exercise a day! While walks are perfect for these small pups, you may grow tired of walking the same route and style day in and day out. Time to switch it up! Try these new ways to walk your Beagle Harrier next time the weather is sunny - it won't cost you a thing!
Step
1
Opposite direction
While many people walk their dog the same route every day, why not switch it up? Instead of going right, go left. Walk down that side street you always skip. Go a little further than you typically would. Just a few little changes will keep your walk fresh and exciting for both you and your Beagle Harrier.
Step
2
Find a friend
Walking alone can get a little boring even if you are with your best friend (your Beagle Harrier!). Why not call up a friend to walk with you? If your friend has a dog, that is even better! Your Beagle Harrier will love to socialize and walk just as much as you will. Walking with others is a nice way to spice up your day to day walks with your pup.
Step
3
Adventure walks
Hop in the car with your Beagle Harrier and drive somewhere new to walk. If there are good trails nearby, a pleasant park you can stroll around or even a mountain to climb, head over there! Walking doesn't have to mean around and around your neighborhood. Walking with your dog should be an adventure!

Treadmill

To get out some of that excess energy, train your Beagle Harrier to run on a treadmill. Then, whenever your Beagle Harrier needs a little more exercise, they can just hop on the treadmill and go!

Puzzle Toys

Beagle Harriers will love searching for treats buried inside a puzzle toy. This is a great way to keep your dog happy and busy while you are away.

Conclusion

If you are lucky enough to own a Beagle Harrier, you want to show them how much you love them just as they are surely very affectionate toward you. All of these activities will speak to your Beagle Harriers needs and desires, ensuring that you and your dog have fun together. So take your dog on a super fun walk, train them to be a therapy dog or lead them on a scent trail. No matter which activity you choose first, your dog will have lots of fun!
