Activity description

When in Rome, do as Romans do, right? Well, the same thing can be said about the Netherlands. Everyone and their grandma uses a bicycle to get around town, so why should you be any different? It is virtually impossible to get run over by a car in this country, as cyclists are protected like endangered species. They have their own lanes, physically separated from the road, and in some cities, cars can’t even enter the city center! Perfect for you and your doggo to go on a relaxing bike ride all while sightseeing and soaking up the culture of the Netherlands.

Step
1
Get a bike
There are numerous bike rental shops in each city that you can visit and cheaply rent a comfortable bike that you can ride around the city. If you are not blessed with incredibly long legs and statuesque height typical for Dutch people, you might want to emphasize that you want a smaller bicycle so you can actually reach the pedals!
Step
2
Be prepared
Next, you should be aware of the fact that you will most likely spend several hours, if not the whole day outside, exploring and sightseeing. Therefore, be prepared. Bring some food and treats with you, and don’t forget a bottle of fresh water and a little bowl for your pup. Nowadays, you can get one of those collapsible bowls that can easily fit in your backpack and use it wherever you are. Also, make sure you have a good leash for your dog so they don’t accidentally bump into another cyclist and get hurt.

Enjoy!
Time to ride, baby! Go outside, get on your bike, put a leash on your pup and explore. You can see many wonderful things on the way, check out the amazing architecture, and ride to a big park where your pup can run around and be their amazing self. You will surely see some fellow dog owners on the way, so befriend them (and their dogs) and ask them for tips and tricks that will be useful during your stay in the Netherlands.

Activity description

What’s the first thing you think of when someone says Netherlands? Canals of course! Amsterdam, Utrecht, and many other cities in the Netherlands are filled with gorgeous canals that intersect and flow through the city. Instead of taking a walk beside the canal, why not rent a boat and have a little cruise? There are numerous services that offer boat rides through the city canals, perfect for a nice, relaxing afternoon and casual sightseeing. You will pass by the most important landmarks of the city, and the tour guide will tell you a story about each one, and while you’re getting educated, your doggo can have the time of their life looking down at the water, checking out landlubbers and their dogs, and chilling with other people and dogs on the boat.

Step
1
Rent a boat
Find a boat service, gather some friends, and rent a boat! Cannot get easier than this, trust us! All you have to do is make sure that your doggo is comfortable on a boat, that they will behave, and that they won’t jump overboard. If you happen to be around other dog owners, you can make a little doggy party on the canal!
Step
2
Be a captain!
There are few things in life that feel better than being a boat captain! You and your doggo can take charge and even steer the boat if you are allowed! Take your time to relax while peacefully rowing down the gracht, take some amazing photos, and show your doggo that life does not only happen on dry land!

Activity description

If you are a fan of the alternative, and you’d like to scratch the surface and see what hides underneath, you might greatly enjoy Bikewars in Utrecht. Bikewars is a squatting venue, an old parking lot abandoned years ago, that the local artists, chefs, musicians, and travelers have claimed and made a wonderful community there. Each Wednesday they serve free vegan food, there are art exhibitions and live music shows, and you can really be a hippie you always wanted to be here. Of course, the whole venue is dog-friendly, and there are a lot of pooches hanging around, being cute and cuddly. Your doggo can make friends, and you can enjoy the company of free-spirited people. And who knows, maybe you’ll leave the conventional life behind and become a true hippie as well!

Step
1
Get ready
First off, understand that Bikewars is not your typical venue. The abandoned parking lot building does not have the amenities most people consider to be a must, so you won’t find a faucet or an indoor bathroom. You also won’t find anyone who will judge you and your dog, so you can finally be yourselves! Bring a water bottle and some dog treats and get ready for a day of fun.
Step
2
Make friends!
Nothing easier than making friends at Bikewars! With a lot of dogs around, you will surely find someone who is interested in having a friendly game of fetch, Frisbee, or hacky sack. Your doggos can run around freely, play with friendly humans, and even get tasty snacks from the vegan meals they make every day!

More Fun Ideas...

King’s Day

Visit the King’s Day festival with your pup and have a proper day of festivity! Put on something orange, get an orange coat or a hat for your doggo and celebrate the Dutch King!

Walking Tour

Whether you are visiting Amsterdam, Utrecht, Amersfoort, Den Haag, or any other city in the Netherlands, ask around for a free walking tour you can attend with your beloved pup. Just make sure you bring a leash and some treats to keep your pup calm and on their best behavior.

Conclusion

Visiting a wonderful country such as The Netherlands is super fun on its own, it is even better and more meaningful when you actually take your dog with you. The two of you can have the time of your lives exploring another culture, meeting amazing Dutch people, and visiting many sights this country has to offer!
