Trying to keep your Shiranian out of trouble when they have a cheeky side is a challenge, but if you can ensure you keep their minds busy, it’s a lot easier than you think. Have you thought about teaching them to dance? Shiranians are intelligent dogs, picking up most skills and tricks with relative ease. Dancing is an excellent option too because it doesn’t cost any money, requires only treats and tidbits you have at home, and is something you can do over several days and weeks in 10-minute time slots. What’s more, it’s the perfect rainy-day activity when you can’t get outdoors for a walk.

Step
1
Circles
The first step to teaching your Shiranian how to dance is by getting them to move around in circles. Put a treat in your hand and get them to see it. Have them follow it in your hand in a full circle. Once they complete a full loop, give them the treat. Repeat the process.
Step
2
High circles
Once your furry friend has mastered moving around in a circle then getting a reward for it, you can then begin to raise your hand, having them walk around in a circle, while using the word ‘spin.’ You will still have the treat in your hand, and they will get it after a full loop, but you should be able to use fewer hand movements for the same result.
Step
3
Off the ground
The final stage is to get them up on two legs. Have them jump up with their feet on your knees as you kneel. Every time they do that, give them a treat. Eventually, work your way toward providing no support for them so they can stand up without your help. You can then join the first two steps of spinning in circles with the final phase of being on two legs.

Treat
Activity description

If your Shiranian is bored and you have five minutes to spare throughout days or weeks, then it might be time to teach them a cool trick such as high-five. The best parts about such activity are that it’s not that difficult to learn, and your doggo can be the life of any party. All you need is a treat, and it’s also an activity you can do in all weather. For the entire time that you are teaching your Shiranian, you will also find all their attention is on you, leaving them less time to get into trouble!

Step
1
Notice the treat
The first step to teaching your Shiranian how to give you a high five is by getting them to notice the treat. Bring it in front of their face, getting their interest, then slowly raise it higher. Every time they move with one of their legs, give them the treat, saying the words ‘high five.’
Step
2
Repetition
You are going to need quite a few treats for this process, but it will be worth it in the end. Have your dog sit in front of you and lift their paw to touch your hand. Praise them positively with a high-energy voice, and give them a treat while saying high five. Keep moving their leg up as they follow the treat with their eyes, reiterating that if they lift their paw, they get a reward for it!
Step
3
Practice makes perfect
Before long, your dog will begin to understand the connection between the treat, moving their paw, and the words ‘high five’. Keep practicing until they no longer need the treat, but are happy with a pat and your kind words. Eventually, they will be able to give anyone and everyone a high-five, showing off how much of a pawesome dog they are!

Leash
Doggy waste bag
Activity description

Given the small size of your Shiranian, you will be pleased to know that you don’t always have to dig deep to come up with creative physical activity options. Instead, your dog will be happy with a walk. However, it doesn’t have to be the same walk, route, and distance every time. You can change up this free, sunny-day activity in any way you like. All you need is half an hour, a leash, a waste bag, and an excited Shiranian eagerly waiting at the door to head out! You can then go for a walk to get rid of all that pent-up energy.

Step
1
Nature walk
If you want to escape from the concrete jungle, then a walk on a nature path could be in order. You are bound to find at least one near to you that features a dog-friendly area to take your furry friend. If there are not any designated nature walks near you, you can create your own by heading to a public garden and wandering through it for half an hour.
Step
2
Neighborhood stroll
Owning a car has meant that many people don’t make time to stop and smell the roses. They won’t even check out their neighborhood or find out what new additions are in it. Taking your Shiranian for a walk gives you the opportunity to find out what’s new and explore your surroundings.
Step
3
Dog park
Another walk option is to the dog park. If there is one nearby, you can walk there, but if not, you can bundle your Shiranian into the car to get there. At the dog park, your four-legged companion can enjoy running around with dogs of a similar size, burning off that pent-up energy in a controlled environment.

Massage

Shiranians are small dogs that love nothing more than to curl up with you on the couch, or even sit on your knee. If they spend more time around you than anywhere else, then you can learn how to massage your dog to improve their circulation and remove muscle knots. Apply pressure and gently rub your hands around their head, neck, and shoulders in a circular motion. They are bound to love how relaxed it makes them feel!

Grooming

Grooming can be quite an expensive activity which is why it’s an excellent idea if you learn how to groom your Shiranian yourself. All you need to do is outlay a bit of money for the clippers and combs, then set about making it something to which your pampered pooch looks forward.

Conclusion

Shiranians are pawsitively delightful pups with a lot of love to give – even from such a small body! Despite the fact that you need to do quite a bit to keep these cheeky wee pups out of trouble, you will find every moment you spend with them is a pleasure. This intelligent breed is one that’s well worth adopting if you ever have the opportunity.Â
