Introduction

You have a precious gift. We're sure that you already knew this, but you have no idea how special your Sinhala Hound really is (we're using a hyperbole here, of course, you know how special your paw-fect pup is!). It is believed that the first Sinhala Hounds were bred for hunting, these specialized dogs would hunt alongside (among others) the indigenous Vedda people in Sri Lanka. These dogs were so prized that they were considered almost as important as the customary bow and arrow. These dogs were even given as wedding gifts. So yes, your dog is very special, and bored. Thankfully, we know how to fix that.

Activity description
If your dog is bored or needs more stimulation in their life, the problem can probably be solved with little social interaction. We, as humans, get stir-crazy if we haven't seen other people in a while, and dogs can feel the same way. If you have a dog park in your area, it would be a good idea to take your dog there to make some new friends. Be warned, you will probably also have to interact with people, but they will be dog people so you will have a lot in common. Boredom will be a thing of the past and you will have new friends to show for your efforts!
Step
1
Be discerning
Is your dog ready for the dog park? Do they have good manners and will they get along well with other dogs? If there is an issue, will your dog take the high road or will they get involved? Your dog might be shy and you will need to prepare them to prevent the experience from overwhelming them. You could try walking past the dog park a few times to pique their interest.
Step
2
Find a spot
If this is your first visit to the park, it is a good idea to find a shady, or sunny, spot and survey the park. Take the time to see what is going on, try and identify the dogs that might cause problems or those that are friendly. Before you know it, other curious dogs will approach your dog and they will have a blast.
Step
3
Widen out
Since you are now a regular at the park, it might be time to widen out and search for new friends. If you were already a regular, this will be a fun way to make going to the park fresh and exciting. Have fun!

Activity description
There are a thousand and one ways to make an ordinary walk more exciting. If you find yourself in a rut, then chances are that your dog is bored with your usual route too. It is time to branch out and have some fun with this special time that you two have together. For this activity, it would be better to play in a quiet area or in a park. Do not play this game in the streets or near lots of traffic since that would be dangerous and will lead to an injury. Otherwise, this will be a fun way to liven up your daily walks.
Step
1
Take a toy
What is your favorite part of walking time? Ours is when we head for the leash and our dog comes to us with hopeful eyes. Then that hope turns to pure excitement and it makes our whole day. This time, take their favorite toy or ball too. Let them know you have it, but put it in your pocket to keep them guessing.
Step
2
Walk then throw
Let the walk go on as normal, and when your dog least expects it, take the toy out and let them smell it. This will make them alert and once you have your attention, you can throw it as far as you can. Your dog will then chase after it to bring it back. It's two classics rolled into one!
Step
3
Enjoy
Since your dog will be running up and down after their toy, they will tire out more quickly. This will get rid of all their pent-up energy and you won't have to walk for hours. This will also feel like a hunt, which is what your Hound was bred for. You will be giving them a taste of their heritage and what could be better than that?

Brain Teasers

Dog Treats
Activity description
Sometimes our dogs have more energy than we do. We simply cannot keep up with all that excitement. If you are feeling all wiped out, but your dog still wants to play, you can always turn to a few simple brain teasers. These games will stimulate your dog mentally and they will not require too much energy on your part. We will give you a few simple brain teasers that you can do yourself. If you are too tired for that, then you can head on down to a local pet store and get an interactive feeder or other interesting games for your dog.
Step
1
Treat in towel
Take a treat and put it in the palm of your hand. Let your dog sniff the treat, then drape a towel over your palm. Drop the towel and treat. Your dog will scramble to find the treat. If your dog is a little more advanced, you could fold the towel around the treat and let them figure out how to get to it.
Step
2
Which hand?
This game is very easy and will soon become your favorite game. All you need to do is let your dog sniff the treat, then close your hand and exchange the treat between your two hands. Then, you let your dog sniff your hands and pick which hand the treat is in. If they get it right, they get a treat!
Step
3
Tennis and muffins
Take an ordinary muffin pan. Place one or two treats in the pan. Then you take tennis balls and put them into the muffin spaces. Your dog will have to figure out how to get the treats from under the tennis balls.

More Fun Ideas...

Laser Catch

This game is primarily aimed at cats, which we think is grossly unfair. Dogs like to chase the elusive red dot too! All you need to do is buy a small laser pointer and watch your dog try and chase it all over the room. A quick word of caution though, this activity will cause your dog to get very excited.

Binge Watching

We've all been there. It's a lazy Sunday (or any other day, we don't judge) and all you want to do is binge watch your new favorite series. Well, we say, let Fido join you! Your dog would love to cuddle up beside you and catch up on all the drama. This isn't an everyday activity, but it sure is fun!

Conclusion

Sinhala Hounds were once considered precious enough to count as a bride's dowry. They were there on the couple's most special day and would hunt for them for as long as they lived. Today, your Hound will go through their life with you, experiencing all your special moments and being excited for you. You also get to be there for them and create some exciting memories for them to enjoy. So, if you see your dog is getting bored, take them to the park, create brain teasers or just snuggle up and enjoy your favorite series together, it is going to be a blast!
