Wag! Walkers know Crown Valley
Crown Valley is a small neighborhood in El Dorado Hills, California which is a town just 22 miles east of Sacramento. It is considered to be part of the greater metropolitan area of Sacramento, but it still retains its own atmosphere. Crown Valley features picturesque, large homes surrounded by thick forests that are built with iconic west coast architecture and have large property sizes.
The weather in El Dorado Hills is typical of many northern California towns which makes it a beautiful place to live almost any time of year. Its average temperatures in the summertime normally have lows in the high 50s and highs in the upper 80s. In the wintertime, it almost never gets colder than 30 degrees and still can reach up to the upper 50s on average days. Though the summer days are warm, they are arid with low humidity, so it will be important to stay hydrated as you explore.
What is the terrain like in Crown Valley?
Though its name might suggest otherwise, Crown Valley’s terrain is actually quite hilly. This is common in many towns in northern California and most of the areas in El Dorado Hills are no exception. Beginning on the eastern side of Brittany Way, you will enter Crown Valley and immediately descend down a gradual, winding hill. It then curves back up and down several times before you are outside of the bounds of Crown Valley once again. Brittany Way is the major road in the neighborhood, but there are several others that are similar in terrain.
There will be some foot and street traffic during the normal rush hour in Crown Valley, but it will never be severe. El Dorado Hills isn’t a densely populated part of California and it mostly has the atmosphere of a quiet suburb. There will be some commuters going to and from Sacramento, but it should never be an issue for you on your walks.
How many greenways are there in Crown Valley?
There are several parks and greenways in and around Crown Valley. Brittany Way, one of the main roads in the neighborhood, runs right up to the border of Wild Oaks Park which is a great spot for dog walking in the area. It is one of the most natural parks in El Dorado Hills because of its unimproved walking trails and protected nature area, though this can also make it a bit precarious to navigate for inexperienced walkers. There is a large amount of wildlife to be seen in the park and it is also famous for its native pine and oak trees.
William C. McCabe Park is located right next to Wild Oaks Park. It is smaller in size but it has a playground, natural turf area, barbecue area, and picnic tables, so it will be a better option to walk to if you are looking for a more structured, formal park.
