Wag! Walkers know Belvedere
Belvedere is your typical Los Angeles neighborhood that is a blend of single and multi-family style housing and is part of East L.A. It is also home to several schools including the East Los Angeles College. For those of you who like to eat out, it's going to be a bit of a drive as there aren't many restaurants in the neighborhood. The same applies to dog parks and pet supply stores. However, you can always take Fido to the Belvedere Community Regional Park in the middle of the community.
It's not hard to see why so many people choose to live in this area when you look at the weather. Summers are dry and tend to be in the low to mid-80s. Winters, on the other hand, can be a bit chilly with temperatures in the mid-40s. However, you won't see much in the way of rain or snow here, so enjoy the sun!
What is the terrain like in Belvedere?
With the exception of the park, the terrain here is suburban with gently rolling hills. Most of the streets are lined with wide sidewalks that are well kept. Those who live here take pride in their community and it shows. This is a safe neighborhood to go walking with Fido during the day, but like much of L.A., you might want to have a walking partner at night.
Most of the walking terrain is paved which means you need to make sure you give your dog's paws time to get used to walking on the rough surface before you set out for long walks. The gently rolling hills add a nice challenge, however. What you may not know is that walking up a hill uses one set of muscles while walking down the hill uses a completely different set! Make sure you take walks around different blocks to keep them fresh and exciting.
How many greenways are there in Belvedere?
Living in Belvedere puts you on one side or the other of the Belvedere Community Regional Park which covers almost 31 acres. This park offers something for everyone including a community swimming pool, sports fields, a skatepark, and acres of grass for you and Fido to romp around on.
If you are okay with taking your pup over the interstate via footbridge, you can head over to the Belvedere Park Lake. Here, you will find trails to walk on, a lake to walk around, and even more acres of grass. While this doesn't sound like much in the way of green space, it's a lot more than many other areas of the city have access to without having to drive for miles.
If you're up for a bit of a drive, you can head east to the Whittier Narrows Natural Area, a 419-acre nature sanctuary with miles of trails for the two of you to explore.
