Located in the heart of Los Angeles, the Fashion District is a commercial area featuring designer warehouses and shops that are integral to the thriving Los Angeles Fashion industry. The area spans 90 blocks and is the heart of the apparel, fabric and accessory industry in the Los Angeles area. A popular destination for Los Angeles residents and tourists alike, this commercial area also contains high rise apartment complexes, hotels, and restaurants serving locals and visitors.

This centrally located neighborhood is accessible from several major thoroughfares, including freeways 110, 101, 10, 5 and 60. The weather in Los Angeles is hot and dry, although large buildings in this area provide shade on some streets depending on the time of day. There is little to no green space or trees providing shade, and pavement can become hot at midday during the summer. Walking your dog in the Fashion District may be more comfortable earlier or later in the day in this shopping area. Some local eateries with patios allow dogs, check with your favorite local establishment to see if your dog can join you on the patio.

There is little natural landscape in this highly developed, commercial area and plenty of hustle and bustle, with shoppers, tourists, and local business employees coming and going. Because of the high traffic in this area, be careful when walking with your dog. Keep your pooch safe and away from roadways with passing vehicles, who may be window shopping instead of watching for pedestrians. Several districts in this area cater to walking traffic, with pedestrian ways, sidewalks, patios, and boulevards designed for foot traffic. Upgrades to several areas including a portion of Los Angeles Street to accommodate walkers will be appreciated by locals with their canine companions. Local residents live in high rise apartments or condominium complexes, there is a scarcity of single-family residences in this area. Some landscaping occurs along shopping areas that have been designed to cater to foot traffic, but most areas are predominantly concrete and pavement. If you are walking your dog in the area you might want to invest in doggy boots to protect his paws from hot pavement.

Green areas are rare in the Fashion District, but Gladys Park, located to the northeast of the area, has picnic tables and outdoor exercise equipment, as well as a basketball court, and provides a park destination for locals. The Factory PI Mini Dog Park is a small park located in the Fashion District, though there is a larger dog park located in the Arts District to the northeast, providing off leash destinations for locals with their canines.

For those who want to enjoy other nearby green spaces with their dog, a short car ride is required. There are plenty of smaller neighborhood parks in the surrounding neighborhoods and larger natural areas to the north, including Griffith Park and Hermon Park. A trip west along the number 10 freeway will take you to the Santa Monica pier, and local beaches, if you want to enjoy some cool pacific ocean water and play with your pup on the sandy LA beaches.
