Wag! Walkers know Rosewood Park (Rosewood)
Rosewood Park is a small community within Commerce that is a blend of larger single-family homes on one side and a large retail section on the other. The area takes its name from the large park in the middle of the community. The homes are laid out in a grid fashion alongside the Santa Ana Freeway, making commuting into the heart of the city easy. Surprisingly, if you want to go out to eat, you should plan on it being a bit of a road trip. The same applies to dog parks and pet supply stores.
Like most of Los Angeles, the climate here is spectacular with summer temperatures in the 80s and no more than 15 inches of rain all year long. Even the winters in L.A. are pleasant with daytime temperatures in the upper 40s. You and Fido should be able to go out walking virtually every day of the year.
What is the terrain like in Rosewood Park (Rosewood)?
The terrain here is typical of so many areas in L.A. in that it is mostly flat with a few gently rolling hills. This is the perfect terrain for you and Fido to walk as it gives your legs a full range of exercises that hit virtually every muscle in them. Going up the hill works one set while going down works another.
The carefully laid out gridwork style makes it much easier for you to plan your walks. You can take different directions each time you leave the house, choose different blocks to explore with each walk, or take your walks from the lower housing area to the upper one.
Even though summers typically only reach the 80s, the pavement can reach temperatures of over 135°F. At this temperature, Fido's paws are much more suscpetible to uncomfortable burns. During the summer months, take your walks during the morning hours while things are still cool.
How many greenways are there in Rosewood Park (Rosewood)?
The nearest green space is right in the heart of the community: Rosewood Park. This park offers sports fields, playgrounds, and picnic facilities. But, more importantly, there is plenty of grass for the two of you to run around on and get in a little exercise.
As long as you don't mind going for a little drive, you can cruise out to the Whittier Narrows Recreation Area. Whittier Narrows includes three lakes, a shooting range, numerous athletic areas, and plenty of trails for you and Fido to explore.
On the other side of the 605 is the Whittier Turnbull Canyon Hiking Trail. This a very popular trail that runs for 4.1 miles in a loop and is open year round. Dogs are welcome on the trails as long as you keep them on a leash and clean up after them. This is just one of the many trails to be found here in the Hacienda Hills.
