Shadow Hills has a rather mild climate. Average temperatures usually stay in the mid-range and most of the rainfall happens in the winter seasons. Thankfully, most days will be perfect for a walk or hike without worrying about heat exhaustion or getting too cold. Just be sure to grab a sweater during the evenings, as it does get a little chilly.
Additionally, the terrain is a good balance of artificial and natural. As mentioned, there are some building, homes, and businesses in the area but it is largely open and natural terrain. The residential areas of Shadow Hills are generally standalone, single-family homes and usually have large front and back yards with plenty of open, natural space to utilize.
The boundaries of Shadow Hills include Wentworth Street to the north, San Fernando Expressway to the east, Sunland Boulevard to the south, and Stonehurst Avenue and North Clybourn Avenue to the west.
Nearby, you will find Stonehurst Recreation Center and its respective greenway. You can also find Hansen Dam Recreation Center and Sunland Recreation Center and the areas around them that are available for use. Unfortunately, none of these areas have dog-friendly areas, so your dog will need to remain leashed at all times. All of these are largely landscaped areas with no distinct walking trails, but you may be able to get a short game of fetch in here and there. Remember to be polite and courteous to other locals and pedestrians and you can enjoy your daily outing in the afternoon sun!
