Wag! Walkers know Silverlake (Ivanhoe)
Located just five miles northwest of downtown Los Angeles, the Silverlake neighborhood awaits your visit!  Silverlake was built around the Silverlake Reservoir where it gets its name from. The city was once called Ivanhoe before the turn of the century by a Scotsman who saw the rolling green hills and was reminded of his homeland.

As you walk along the streets, you will spy some trendy places to eat and shop as Silverlake is known as a 'hipster's' playground. Need to get a quick bite to eat? Why not head to the outdoor patio of Gingergrass on Glendale Boulevard for some healthy and yummy Vietnamese food with the whole family. The Mixville Shopping Center is ripe for window shopping!  Fido could use a new leash or a toy and he will let you know if he spies one in the shopping center's many windows. Throughout the neighborhood, you'll have your fill of options to choose from.
What is the terrain like in Silverlake (Ivanhoe)?
The terrain of Silverlake is known for its winding, hilly streets, so be sure to wear some comfortable walking shoes and be ready for some hiking!  As you traverse the city streets, you can take any number of city stairwells to travel up and down and across the city. One such flight of stairs - the Music Box stairs - are located between lower Descanso Drive and Vendome Street.  These stairs were in Laurel & Hardy's classic film 'The Music Box'.

The city offers many beautiful overlooks to the valleys below. Many of the houses were built in the 1950s and still exude that same old-time charm.  If you need a place to rest or have a scenic picnic, you can take your food and your blanket to the meadow at Silver Lake Reservoir and open that picnic basket, play some frisbee, or just relax!  The area is pleasant enough for all sorts of activities.
How many greenways are there in Silverlake (Ivanhoe)?
The Silver Lake Reservoir is the perfect place for a safe and scenic walk or run with your furry friend! There are lots of places to explore, lots of places to rest, and natural beauty as far as the eye can see. There is also a dog park on the south end of the reservoir, so if you want to give your pup a chance to go off-leash and mingle with the local canines, fear not!

The reservoir also has a basketball court and a 2.2-mile walking and jogging path. There is also a part of the reservoir that is now a public beach-like swimming area called the 'Silver Lake Plunge', but since the area is popular with the younger crowd, it is locally known as 'Hipster Beach'.  What a great place to spend the day with your furry friend!  Remember to clean up after your pet while inside the Reservoir and don't forget to have fun!
