Adams Morgan and Kalmora Heights are adjacent neighborhoods located centrally in Washington, D.C. These neighborhoods are highly walkable with many amenities and interesting sites. Adams Morgan has an active nightlife scene with restaurants, bars, nightclubs, and live music venues. There are unique shops, art galleries, and historic buildings, some with murals, located in the area and Kalorama contains several foreign embassies and stately mansions. Nearby walking trails along the creek and parks round out the many attractive destinations in this region.
Washington experiences all four seasons and there can be some severe weather. Winters are cool and snowfall occurs, although it is usually not especially heavy. Walkways can become icy when temperatures are below freezing. Summers are hot and humid and may be accompanied by severe thunderstorms. When extreme heat occurs, choose to walk your dog earlier or later in the day. Keep an eye out for severe storms that can be perilous to pedestrians and pets.
Adams Morgan and Kalorama Heights are adjacent neighborhoods forming an affluent residential and commercial region on the east banks of Rock Creek. Lanier Heights is situated to the north and Dupont Circle to the south with Kalmora Heights in the west and Adams Morgan to the east.
Rock Creek and its ravine and natural areas create a beautiful green space on the west side and there are many community parks in the district. Homes in the Kalorama section consist of mansions and embassy properties, while Adams Morgan has many stately homes as well as multi-story apartments and condominiums. There are some gentle hills and inclines, but no steep climbs for dog walkers and their pets.
Streets are lined with sidewalks and grassy berms which create pleasant, safe walkways for pedestrians and their furry friends. Streetscapes are lined with tall trees creating cool, shady spots for walking in the summer. Residential and public properties are well maintained and landscaped.
There are many greenways and parks in the Adams Morgan-Kalorama Heights neighborhoods. The Rock Creek Trail runs along the creek on the west side of the region and connects with other trails and greenways in the area. Meridian Hill Park is located on the east border and is part of the Rock Creek Park system. This 12-acre park has paved walkways and a garden with a water feature. There are walls and stairs throughout the multi-level landscape which is built on a hillside, so be prepared for some climbs.
Kalmora Park is a smaller, 3-acre triangular shaped park with a recreation center and community garden. Just north of the district, the Walter Pierce Park has a beautiful green space and small, but very popular dog park. Waste facilities and drinking water for playful pooches are provided in the park.
Mitchell Park is also located in the neighborhood and has plenty of recreational facilities and fields with walking paths and a garden to explore with your canine companions.
