Wag! Walkers know Wesley Heights
Wesley Heights is a small, residential neighborhood located in western Washington, D.C. This middle-upper class neighborhood is largely composed of standalone, single-family homes with expansive front lawns. Commercially, there is not much in Wesley Heights except an elementary school and a church. However, in the neighborhood immediately to the east, residents can find shopping complexes and other necessities.

Washington, D.C., however, has a bit more excitement than its small, residential suburb. The nation's capitol is well-known for its many tourist attractions including the National Mall, the different Smithsonian Museums, memorials and monuments operated by the U.S. National Park Service, the National Zoo, and distinct neighborhoods like Chinatown with unique personalities and cultures. Washington, D.C. is also known for its plethora of political activity, so whenever you are out exploring, always be aware of your surroundings and know what is going on. If political protests aren't your thing, D.C. also hosts a variety of festivals like the famous Cherry Blossom Festival in late spring.
What is the terrain like in Wesley Heights?
Wesley Heights, as a suburban neighborhood, is largely composed of artificial terrain, however, the proximity to a large, public greenway and its respective large, mature trees helps make this neighborhood feel a bit less urban. Thankfully, along with a more urban location, Wesley Heights has plenty of sidewalks for you and your pup to use.
Wesley Heights, like many of the D.C. suburbs, has quite a few hills. Thankfully, most of the hills are gradual changes in elevation and don't pose anything too challenging for pedestrians and their furry friends.
The boundaries of Wesley Heights include Nebraska Avenue to the north, New Mexico Avenue to the east, Forest Lane, Fulton Street, and a greenway to the south, and 49th Street and Foxhall Road to the west. Furthermore, immediately to the north of Wesley Heights is the well-known and prestigious American University. While school is in session, that area may experience a higher volume of traffic.
How many greenways are there in Wesley Heights?
Unfortunately, there is only one greenway located in Wesley Heights and it is a small, unnamed park located in the middle of a triangular intersection on the northern border of the neighborhood.

However, Wesley Heights is basically surrounded by greenways, so you and your pup still have plenty of parks to choose from! The largest greenway is immediately to the east of Wesley Heights. Glover Archbold Park is a 183-acree greenway and is an offshoot of Rock Creek Park, so it is operated by the U.S. National Park Service. It does, however, have its own 3-mile walking and hiking trail which will be perfect for you and Fido if you're looking for more than residential views while out walking. Battery Kemble Park, which is immediately to the west, is home to Civil War artifacts and remnants of a battery or fort where guns were housed.
Other nearby greenways include Spring Valley Park, Foxhall Playground, Potomac Palisades Parkway, and Whitehaven Parkway.
