Doggie Fashion Parade
Every January, as a part of People for Palmer Park's Annual WinterFest, pups from far and wide plus their admirers gather for fun and fashion, four-legged style! This is an opportunity to get creative with your canine and show off their unique look. Dogs dressed in scarves, hats, cloaks, sunglasses, and whatever elaborate outfits their humans come up with will strut their stuff on a walk around Lake Frances. Accompanied by their owners and enthusiastic children in doggie masks, this is family and dog-friendly fun! Treats and prizes are provided for all pets from various local businesses and organizations. The event is located on the south side of Palmer Park adjacent to Merrill Paisance. Parking and admission are free!

Dequindre Cut Greenway
This is a stunning paved trail nearly 2 miles long that runs from the riverfront all the way to Eastern Market. As a part of the Rails-to-Trails Conservancy, a nonprofit organization working to create a nationwide network of trails from former rail lines, the path is clean and well-maintained. Previously an unused railroad corridor, the Dequindre Cut Greenway is now a great place to bring your pooches. There are separate lanes for pedestrian and bicycle traffic to keep everyone safe! This is a good option for pups who may not do well with the volume of dogs you find at dog parks or other canine-centered events. Free parking is available at Rivard Plaza near the southern end of the trail.

Riverfront Canine Club Pack Walks
Nothing says Sunday Funday like a scenic stroll along the river with a pack of pups! Meeting Sundays at 10:30 a.m. in the Rivard Plaza parking lot, this gathering welcomes dogs and their owners to walk along the river and up the Dequindre cut, spicing up dog social lives! The walk takes place every Sunday throughout the summer and into fall, switching to monthly in the winter. As the walks span up to an hour and a half, be sure to bring along water for you and your dog. The Riverfront Canine Club is organized by Canine to Five partnered with the Detroit Riverfront Conservancy, making this lively city even more dog-friendly!
Detroit Dog Park
This is Detroit's first dog park, opened in May 2014. Formerly Macomb Park, the city teamed up with Petsmart to transform this space into a canine concourse, sparking an influx of other dog parks to the city. This park is a great place for dogs and people to meet and play, open every day from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. All dogs pawing around the park must be licensed and vaccinated and though there are no separate sections, dogs of all sizes are welcome! Be sure to bring your own water along to keep your pal hydrated!
