My name is Kiefer, I'm an enthusiastic animal-lover living and working in San Francisco. I grew up with a pit bull/Great Dane mutt named Bandit and a couple of cats. After Bandit, we adopted a border collie/black lab mix and a greyhound/black lab mix from our local animal shelter. When I moved away for college, I filled my dog void by spending ~10 hr/week at the Humane Society as a senior volunteer; I was responsible for cleaning, feeding, basic agility and training, and off-site socialization and exercise. I've had a great love for dogs since I was a child and miss having them as a constant in my life. I aim to provide your dog with all of my affection and attention!

About Dog Training in San Carlos, CA

Training Fun Fact #1:

While most of the nature areas in the vicinity of San Carlos prohibit dogs, La Honda Creek Preserve welcomes hound-dog hikers. Some restrictions apply — you’ll need to obtain a permit, and your pup is only allowed on select trails in the Upper La Honda Creek area. Staying in designated pet-friendly areas is especially important since cattle graze this open land. To keep your canine and the cows safe, train your dog not to chase cows before you go. If your pup starts to bark or attempts to chase, ignore them and continue walking. You don’t want to reward their bad behavior with your attention!

Training Fun Fact #2:

If you’ve lived in San Carlos for awhile, you’ll know that French Bulldogs are the most beloved breed in the Bay Area. Think your cuddly canine has what it takes to compete for the blue ribbon? Training your French Bulldog for show could take up to 8 months, but the effort is well worth it! As well as socialization and obedience, you’ll need to train your Frenchie to stand without moving and stay still for grooming.

Training Fun Fact #3:

San Carlos has something most cities don’t: an off-leash swimming facility for doggos! You’d be barking mad not to treat your dog to a day here every now and then. Is your woofer a little wary of the water? When training your dog to swim in a pool, start small with a kiddie pool in the back yard. (Or stick to the shallow end if you have an in-ground pool.) Keep treats handy to coax your canine into the water. Wade in alongside them if possible to make them feel more comfortable. Before you know it, your pal will be splashing and socializing at the local indoor doggy pool in no time!

Average Cost of Dog Training in San Carlos, CA

In-home training addresses issues right at their source: your home! You can expect to pay an hourly rate of $100 for an in-home San Carlos dog training session. Additional consultation fees of up to $150 may also apply. Some in-home training programs are entirely online and range from $120 to $200 for 3 to 5 sessions. Single virtual training sessions cost $80 on average.

Thinking about enrolling in group classes to socialize your puppy or adolescent dog? This San Carlos dog training option will set you back anywhere from $130 to $230 for a 6-week course. Be prepared to pay extra fees to complete the beginner, intermediate, and advanced tiers of the puppy training or obedience course. Just about ready to send your badly behaved barker off to boarding school? You’ll have to contact a San Carlos dog training facility directly for pricing information.

Maybe your fur-baby doesn’t get along well with other woofers. Maybe your busy schedule means you can’t commit to a course. Or maybe you’re just looking to save some money. No matter your situation, San Carlos dog trainers with Wag! have the solution. For a flat fee of $60 per hour-long training session, you’ll be in full control of when, where, and how your dog’s training takes place.

The process is simple. Once you’ve downloaded the app, created your account, and entered your dog’s information, all you have to do is set the time and date of your session. This unlocks the full list of dog trainers in your area. Scroll through the available trainers and find the perfect match for your dog’s breed and training needs. From there, you can message your trainer to craft a bespoke training plan that suits your pup’s personality perfectly.

Going Off-Leash in San Carlos, CA

Local pooches have a few places where they can go dog wild off-leash in San Carlos. One of those is Heather Dog Exercise Area. Good recall skills are essential at this partially fenced park. While your pup is romping and rolling here, they might get some burrs and foxtail grass stuck in their coat from the natural terrain. If your dog isn’t keen on getting groomed, team up with a dog trainer near you to train your dog to accept grooming.

Need a place to practice your pup’s agility training? San Carlos Dog Park is just the spot! Also known as City Hall Dog Park, this pup playground comes complete with A-frames and other agility equipment. You’ll also find doggy water fountains, waste baggies, and plenty of other pups and their parents to meet. Got a shy Sheltie who isn’t quite used to busy environments? Avoid peak times for a calmer experience.

Dog Training in San Carlos, CA

Whether it’s behavioral problems, obedience commands, or even agility fundamentals, San Carlos dog trainers with Wag! have the expertise your dog needs to succeed. Dog trainers on the platform are dog lovers first and foremost. When they’re not training or exercising with their own fur-babies, they’re helping local hounds learn the rules of the roost.

What breeds reign supreme in San Carlos? Pretty much anywhere you go in or around the Bay Area, you’ll find a French Bulldog strolling the sidewalks. These adorable lap dogs have taken San Carlos (and San Francisco) by storm. Their friendly, loyal temperament makes them a treat to train. You’ll want to start obedience training as soon as possible. Frenchies are notorious chewers!

The reliable Siberian Husky is also among the most popular breeds in San Carlos. These intelligent sled dogs excel at anything they put their sharp minds to, including search and rescue training and police dog training. Their athletic build also makes them a natural at agility and rally-o. Need a hand with obedience training your Husky puppy? Find a trainer near you on the Wag! app and create a training plan that’s customized to your Husky’s temperament and training needs.

Whether you’re the proud parent of a friendly Frenchie, a hardworking Husky, or a mischievous mutt, a little extra training benefits every breed. Book a San Carlos dog trainer and let the fun begin!
