About Dog Training in Happy Valley, OR

Training Fun Fact #1:

If your pupper has lots of energy, you might want to teach them to run alongside your bike! This trick is super simple to teach your dog, and they can master it in less than a week. The best way to teach this is by walking your dog on a leash next to your bike at first, so they get used to it and don't get in a tangle. Use verbal commands to teach your dog to stay close to the bike, and make sure to reward good behavior. Introduce a bike leash, and cycle slowly and stop often for starters. Ramp up the difficulty over a period of time so your pooch can build up their stamina.

Training Fun Fact #2:

There's nothing cuter than babies and woofers getting along; however, there are a few things you should do to make sure your mutt accepts your new baby. Getting a practice doll is an excellent way to get your pupper used to the new addition. You should practice with a doll for a couple of months, so your pup is well adjusted. Treat the doll exactly as you would your newborn, and tell your dog to sit whenever you're holding the doll, so they know not to jump up at the baby. Make sure to reward gentle behavior with treats and praise. Then, once you bring home the real thing, your pup will know the right way to behave.

Training Fun Fact #3:

Our canine compadres can sometimes be a little skittish, and your pooch may get scared whenever they hear fireworks or a thunderstorm. Training your hound to ignore loud noises can take up to six months, so don't expect their behavior to change overnight. When a storm hits, try calling your fur-baby over to distract them. Try running them through some commands like 'sit' and 'rollover' to help keep them busy. Reward your dog with treats anytime they perform a series of tricks, so your pup knows that ignoring loud noises results in rewards.

Happy Valley is an excellent city for pet parents, with mile after mile of nearby countryside to explore with your canine companion. If you're looking for a dog trainer in Happy Valley, you'll find tons of trainers ready to help teach Fido a trick or two.

Before signing up for any classes, make sure your pupper is vaccinated, as this is a requirement for many trainers. You'll also want to plan your classes a few weeks in advance, dog trainers around Portland stay pretty busy.

Private dog training is very popular in Happy Valley, with lots of trainers offering one-on-one classes at their training facility or in your home. While your pooch will undoubtedly learn faster at private sessions, they are quite expensive around Happy Valley. One training session which lasts for an hour or two can cost anywhere from $100 to $375 per class.

If you're looking to train your mutt on a budget, consider attending group training classes. Group training can be great fun and is a good way for Sparky to make some new pals. Going Off-Leash in Happy Valley, OR

After a few training sessions, you might want to take your pup to a nearby park to show off their new skills. Before heading to your chosen destination, make sure you check the park's T&Cs beforehand. Many parks across the US require that dogs are vaccinated and microchipped before attending.

The Happy Valley Dog Park is the only dog park in Happy Valley. This average-sized dog park features high fences to stop any potential escape artists. Two off-leash areas separate large and small dogs, making this a superb park if your dog is a little shy. These off-leash areas are big enough to play games like fetch, so you'll be able to wear out your mutt easily.

Another excellent dog park can be found in neighboring Clackamas. The North Clackamas Dog Park features a vibrant rose garden and plenty of trees where you and Max can sit in the shade. This park also has a great water station where you can fill up your dog's bowl with a hose. There's also a large off-leash dog area, where Fido can stretch their legs and play with other woofers.
