“I love this job!”

Dogs have always been the focus of my career. I’ve worked everywhere from kennels, to training facilities, to daycares, and now, after nearly a decade of learning all I can from those environments, I’m looking to provide more individualized care. I have a mellow personality, which vibes well with anxious or wary dogs, but I prefer to match the energy level of the dog I’m with. I love dogs of all sizes, training levels, and temperaments, and am happy to work with your established rules.

“Mature, college educated, & highly experienced!”

I’ve loved animals, especially dogs and cats, basically since I was born. I grew up with Mastiffs and Rottweilers. It was mainly my chore to feed them, walk them, pick up poop, clean up puke, you name it! And we’re talking from a very young age! As an adult, as soon as I got my Bachelor’s degree and moved off campus, I adopted 2 cats. Throughout my adult life, I’ve had a rescue Yorkie and rescue Pug, as well as other cats. I treat all animals as my babies!!

“Not to brag, but dogs love me!”

I have owned a dog my entire life, as well as hosting a variety of other animals throughout the years. I spend my free time working for local animal organizations in an effort to create a better world for all our animal friends. I am currently dog mom to an amazing little King Charles mix that I rescued. I also have a knack for working with shy and nervous dogs, they trust me right off the bat. I cannot wait to meet and love on your fur-baby and currently have open availability.

Hey everyone! my name is Rachel, and I am a graduate student at the University of Washington. I have two heelers of my own, who have been quite the learning opportunities so far. I am an active person who can both walk and jog with a dog or two, and genuinely enjoy working with different dogs with different temperaments. My work schedule is flexible, and I am comfortable working with any dog between teacup to GSD. Because of issues with reactivity, I have learned how to work with training tools (prongs, slip leads, slip collars, etc.) as well as treats, and would be comfortable working with more...spirited pups!

I am the mom of a shelter pup who has had his fair share of challenges. He is my best friend and working on his training has taught me many lessons about dog body language, the value of positive reinforcement training, and all things dog! I am comfortable and able to walk reactive pups if you have one. I volunteer at a shelter once a week walking dogs so I have experience walking a variety of dogs with many different needs. I am also comfortable running your dog if they have some extra energy they need to burn off. I’ve been through Ahimsa’s Basic training and Seattle Dogs Day Out Growly Class with my dog. I have practice with clicker training, BAT, disengage/engage, and am always looking to increase my knowledge.

About Dog Training in Medina, WA 98039

Training Fun Fact #1:

If you live on a farm or happen to have chickens on your property, your pooch may be able to help when its time to get your feathery friends back in the coop. Teaching your pooch to herd chickens can take a few months, so be sure to stick with it. First, gather some of your calmest chickens and place them in a round pen. Put your dog on a long leash and then walk them around the pen's perimeter. After a lot of practice and positive reinforcement, let your dog off the leash and get them to circle the pen. After even more practice, remove the pen and be prepared to grab your pup if they get to close to your chickens. Lastly, introduce movement commands, and your hound will eventually get the hang of herding.

Training Fun Fact #2:

Do you have a possessive pooch who refuses to drop an item on command? Teaching your dog to "drop it" will take a month or two. Teach your dog the "drop it" command by giving them a toy to play with and then using a firm command. If your dog doesn’t drop the toy, don't try to snatch it or yell, as they may think you're playing. If your dog does drop the toy, give them plenty of praise and a treat. Keep practicing, and eventually your mutt will learn to share without any fuss.

Training Fun Fact #3:

Some doggos can't help but get excited around new people; however, this behavior can be a nuisance if they keep jumping up and barking. Teach yourdog to be calm around strangers with the ignore method, which takes about a month to learn. Find a willing stranger and walk your dog near them. If your dog gets overexcited, ignore them without pulling their lead or raising your voice. If your dog behaves, give them a small reward and some praise. Over time, increase the reward as their behavior improves, and soon your pup will walk by strangers without reacting.

Average Cost of Dog Training in Medina, WA

Medina is a popular place for dog owners, with lots of classes in the city and across Washington Lake in Seattle. As a result, you may have to hunt around to find the best dog trainer for you and Fido. Before you jump the gun and book a trainer in Medina, there are a few things to consider.

Most dog trainers across Seattle have very busy schedules, so ensure you book a class at least a few weeks in advance. Some trainers require proof of vaccinations before attending a class, so make sure you take Sparky to the vet before their first session. If you can't find pricing for your chosen trainer, they may require a consultation first. Some teachers offer this service for free, while some charge a significant fee.

Group training is a popular way of training pups; however, your woofer won't get as much one-on-one time as they would in private sessions. Another downside is you'll be tied into attending classes at the same time every week, which can be tough if you have a busy schedule. That said, puppy training and general obedience classes near Medina are more affordable and can cost anywhere from $130 to $175 for a 6-week course.

Pet parents who want to give their pooch a crash course in training will want to consider private training sessions. Individual training means your canine compadre will get their trainer’s undivided attention and will undoubtedly pick up new skills quicker. This training option costs more than group training. Sessions can cost anywhere from $100 to $130 an hour in and around Medina.

Can't find the right trainer for your woofer in Medina? Check out some of the Medina dog trainers available through Wag!. These private dog trainers charge around $60 for an hour-long session and can personalize your lessons to guarantee your pupper is getting the most out of their training. You'll also save some money which you can use to pamper your four-legged friend.

Going Off-Leash in Medina, WA

There are a few off-leash dog parks in and around Medina where you can test out your dog's new skills. Some dog parks require your dog is vaccinated or neutered before being allowed in, so you're best off checking the park's rules before leaving the house.

The Medina Dog Park in Medina is a convenient place to take your pupper if you don't want to stray far from home. This park is off-leash but isn't fenced in, so make sure your dog is well-versed in commands like  "stay" and "come" before visiting. There's also a swimming pond where your dog can cool off on a hot summer's day.

Another excellent dog park nearby is the Robinswood Animal Corral in Bellevue. The off-leash area is fenced in and has a double gate system, making it better suited to dogs who are liable to bolt. There are two separate pens for small and large dogs, making this park ideal for shy puppers. Ensure your dog is kept on a leash outside the off-leash area, as park officials can issue fines for not following the rules.
