Bohon Park is a small neighborhood situated behind the Halifax Habitat Village on the outer edge of town. Living out here is one way to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city, but it also puts you a bit of a drive from things like pet supply stores, restaurants, shopping, and most other conveniences.
At the same time, it also puts you within a short drive of the Community Dog Park at Halifax Humane Society. If you like to dance the night away, the nightclubs over on the beachside are only a short drive over the bridge to the beachside.
Speaking of the beach, did you know that Daytona Beach is 23 miles long and used to be the home of the Daytona Raceway before the track opened? While the beach track may be gone, the surf still feels great when the outside temperatures are in the 90s.
Walking your pup here and getting any real exercise out of it may seem to be an impossibility. After all, what are you going to do with flat terrain to make things challenging? But if you stop and take a look around at the many residential blocks that surround your home, you can incorporate different blocks into your daily walks. This will keep just enough variety in your walks to make them interesting to Fido's snoot.
While you might think of your dog's walks as merely for going potty and getting in a little exercise, to them, they are a chance to exercise their sense of smell. Your pup's nose is several thousand times more sensitive than yours and is their primary method of exploration, so be sure you take your time and let them sniff around as you walk. Fido is sure to appreciate this and look forward to going out for their daily "sniff" with you.
There is nothing like playing with your dog and going for walks with somewhere besides the pavement around your neighborhood. To the west is the Community Dog Park at the Halifax Humane Society. This is a great dog park where both the small and large fenced-in sections have agility courses and toys provided by the Humane Society's many volunteers. There are water fountains for the pooches to ensure they remain hydrated as well.
The park also provides places for you to sit in the shade while your dog gets out there and plays with their buddies. Socializing with other dogs is a very important part of ensuring proper behavior around other dogs and people. Be sure you use the free bags to clean up any messes Fido might leave. This is the right thing to do as it leaves the park clean for others who come after you.
