Top dog walkers in Coquina Lake
Wag! Walkers know Coquina Lake
Coquina Lake is a small residential neighborhood located on the corner of Derbyshire Rd. and 6th St. The community surrounds a small lake by the same name. This is a community of modest single-family homes just down the street from Derbyshire Park. Beyond this park, there are a few smaller parks in the area, but you will have to drive to them. The same applies to restaurants as Daytona Beach has dozens serving up an incredible variety of international and American foods, but they are a bit of a distance away. The nearest dog parks are down the road.
You are sure to enjoy the winters here with temperatures in the upper 40s and low 50s and no snow. Summers are hot here with temperatures in the 90s and regular rain showers. You can expect up to 51 inches of rain each year and 230 days of glorious sunshine to enjoy.
What is the terrain like in Coquina Lake?
The terrain here is essentially like an ironing board in that it's perfectly flat. Thankfully, there are several ways to make your walks together more fun. There are sidewalks along the roads in part of the community and not in others. You will need to pay attention to the traffic in the area when going off the sidewalks, especially if you choose to walk along Derbyshire. Of course, you are only a short walk from Derbyshire Park.
The biggest issue with going for walks in Daytona is the heat. Not just the ambient temperature and humidity, but the temperature of the pavement both you and Fido will be walking on. Once the temperature reaches the 90s, the sidewalks can be almost double that. While you have shoes to protect your feet, Fido has only their paws. They will only hold up for so long before the sidewalk can cause burns and discomfort, so keep that in mind.
How many greenways are there in Coquina Lake?
Coquina Lake happens to be next to Derbyshire Park and Sports Complex where you and Fido will find acres of grass to run around on. You will have to run along with your pup as this is not an off-leash park. You are also very close to the Cedar Highlands Park, a large wooded area with plenty of trails running deep into the woods. It's a fantastic place to take Fido for long walks. There are restrooms, picnic areas, and plenty of shade during the heat of summer
If you want a green space where you can let Fido run around off-leash, you are not too far away from the Community Public Dog Park next to the Halifax Humane Society. The park offers agility courses, fenced in areas, water stations for both humans and their pets, and walking trails where you can walk Fido and work on some obedience training.
