Deerwood Condos sit off of Dunn Avenue near the Volusia Mall and Daytona International Speedway. If you are a race fan, you can walk to the track from your home! Living here also puts you within reach of the finest restaurants in town, both here on the mainland side and over the bridge on the other end.
There are pet supply stores within driving distance along Speedway Blvd, but if you want dog-friendly parks, be prepared to do a bit of driving as there aren't any nearby. This is the price you pay for living in the heart of Daytona. But with the beach a ten-minute drive to the east, you can always take your dog out there for your daily walks.
For those who love the hot weather, the summers here are spectacular with temperatures in the 90 to 100-degree range for days on end and only the occasional rainstorm to deal with.
The terrain around the Deerfield Condos is what you might expect. It is flat, paved, and not too exciting. If the only place you plan to take your pup for walks is around the community, they are going to get bored very quickly.
It can be hard to find ways to keep your walks fresh and exciting when you live in such a small community. Thankfully, there are several other communities nearby where you can log in the miles. The two of you can spend days checking out the different areas which will give your pup plenty of fresh scents to keep their nose happy.
Since most of your walking will be done on rough paved surfaces, remember to give your dog's paws time to build up a layer of callus to protect them from damage. Be patient and start out with short walks at first. It won't take long for them to be ready for longer distances!
Living behind the Volusia Mall means living in an area without much in the way of parks. However, there is a large area of vacant land on the east side of the condos that used to be a golf course.
If you want green space that you can truly enjoy getting out on, try the beach. It runs for miles in either direction and is the perfect place to get in plenty of exercise. You can count on the sand to give your leg muscles an incredible workout. The soft sand sucks at your feet, pulling them in with every step and making both of you work harder with each step you take. The good news is that on the way back, you can use the wet sand to walk on and the surf to cool your feet and your dog's paws after your morning jog or walk on the World's Most Famous Beach.
