Wag! Walkers know Georgiana Park
Georgiana Park is one of the older commercial and residential areas just off of Mason Ave. The homes are perhaps not as well kept as other areas of town and there aren't many sidewalks for you and your pup to walk on. If you plan to walk along the edge of the road, you should wear light-colored clothing to help motorists see you. Once you get out on Mason Ave, there are numerous businesses, but not much in the way of eateries very close by. As for dog parks and pet supply stores, you will have a bit of a drive. However, the beach is also only a short drive to the east and there's always Tomoka State Park.
If the lack of snow in this area sounds good, you will love the fact it stays in the 40s during the winter and hits the 90s in the summer, making Daytona a beautiful place to live.
What is the terrain like in Georgiana Park?
Given its location, Georgiana Park is a blend of business centers with vast paved parking lots on Mason Ave. and heavily shaded residential properties behind them. There are two things you need to be aware of when taking your pup out for a walk here. One, never walk your dog without light-colored or reflective clothing as the roads are busy. Two, when the temperatures reach the mid-70s, the pavement can reach much higher temperatures which can severely burn the pads on your pup's paws in seconds. Try to plan your walks for early in the morning before the sun has had time to turn the pavement into a frying pan! Late evenings are okay, but the pavement can still be hot as it takes time for it to cool down.
Overall, this area is primarily flat, making it a great option for walkers of any experience or fitness level.
How many greenways are there in Georgiana Park?
The residential section does have plenty of shade trees, but beyond that, if you want greenways your pup can play on, you're going to have to drive.
A little to the west on Mason Ave. is Sunnyland Park which is the home of Bethune-Cookman's Div. I softball program. There is plenty of grass here, but be sure to clean up after your pup. The next large park is Derbyshire Park on 3rd and Derbyshire Rd. with even more grass and shade trees to enjoy on your outing.
There are dog parks in the area but be prepared to drive your dog to their play date. The Halifax Humane Society has a great little dog park right next to their central facility. The park offers water spigots and bowls, agility obstacles for the pups, and plenty of shade to help keep you cooled down while your dog enjoys a day outdoors with their friends.
