Top dog walkers in Granville Circle
Wag! Walkers know Granville Circle
Granville Circle is a small neighborhood located on the bank of the Halifax River. The community is on the beachside peninsula and home to several larger houses. Living on the inland side of the peninsula puts you only three and a half blocks from the World's Most Famous Beach. While this keeps the beach within walking distance, it also helps keep you insulated from the constant drone of tourist traffic on A1A.
Speaking of A1A, if you like to dine out and love seafood, there are several exceptional restaurants to sample. But beyond a couple of tiny parks, there isn’t much here.
Winters in the area can be chilly with January temperatures during the day averaging in the upper 40s to low 50s and you may experience a little frost in the mornings. Summers, however, are to die for with temperatures in the 90s and endless weeks of cloudless skies for warm weather lovers.
What is the terrain like in Granville Circle?
The terrain all along the peninsula is essentially a blend of flat and level with plenty of sand thrown into the mix. Going for walks with your dog could almost sound boring, so how do you turn flat suburban terrain into something exciting?
You always have the option to do things like walk different routes every chance you get. The more variety, the less likely your pup's nose is going to become bored, leaving them less than willing to go walking.
Luckily, there is the beach nearby! Tough walks in the soft sand are available here. These work every muscle in your legs and your dog's. It's a great way to build muscles, lose weight, and improve your stamina. Then you get to walk back on the wet hard packed sand which is much easier and a good way to cool your muscles down before going home. You have plenty of opportunity for different terrain in this part of town.
How many greenways are there in Granville Circle?
Like most neighborhoods on this part of the peninsula, there aren't many options for green space nearby. There are a few small parks with just enough grass for you and Fido to play, but nothing significant.
Beyond this, the next true green space is a short drive over the bridge and north on Beach St. in Ormond. From there, it's only three miles or so to Tomoka State Park. The park covers over 2,000 acres of wetlands, forest, and is the home of Nocoroco, a Timucuan Indian village from approximately 1,500 years ago.
More than 160 species of bird make their home here including peregrine falcons, bald eagles, northern harrier, the American White Ibis, wood storks, and numerous heron. There is a half-mile nature trail and a 1-mile long paved trail for you and your pup to make use of as you enjoy trying to see how many different species you can find.
