Top dog walkers in Horn
Wag! Walkers know Horn
Horn is a tiny block on Main Street over on the beachside of Daytona. It sits next door to the Pinewood Cemetery and across the street from the Boot Hill Saloon. This is a very busy area of town, especially during Bike Week when thousands of bikes line Main Street from one end to the other.
For those that like biker bars, you have the Boot Hill Saloon and Froggy's. Need a new Harley? Bruce Rossmeyer's Harley Davidson is right across the street! If you like to eat out, there are plenty of restaurants to choose from all along A1A offering up an incredible variety, especially seafood.
Bike week is held in February when the temperatures are typically in the 60s or warmer leading up to summers in the 90s. You can't beat the weather here and there are very few days when you can't take your pup out for their daily walk!
What is the terrain like in Horn?
The terrain here is very flat and heavily paved with the exception of the cemetery. As far as going for walks on level terrain, it can be hard to get serious exercise in. When you don't have hills to add resistance, you have to go for endurance and stamina. There are plenty of blocks for the two of you to walk around.
If you don't mind walking the three blocks to the beach, you have access to two different types of walking terrain, both of which are good for your legs and your pup's as well as being great for your overall health! Since the soft sand tends to suck at your feet and make walking much harder than it should be, it is a great way to build up both leg muscles and stamina. On the way back, you can always walk in the wet sand that is hard-packed and much easier to traverse.
How many greenways are there in Horn?
The only green space near Horn is the cemetery which is, in and of itself, not much of a green space. There is the Breakers Oceanfront Park, but it is typically crowded and has little space to offer.
There is, of course, the beach, which is a vast open area to take advantage of. But if you want more space or long trails in the woods to take your pup for walks in, you need to head west. Once you get out of town, you will run into the Tiger Bay State Forest and Tomoka Wildlife Management Area.
The WMA covers over 30,000 acres of cypress swamps, pine-palmetto, and dense Florida woods in what is referred to as the largest forest in the south. There are miles of trails for the two of you to explore as you stroll along looking to see how many birds and animals you can see along the way!
