Wag! Walkers know Orange IslaPark
Orange Island Park is a mixed community of single-family homes and businesses on the north side of the Main Street Bridge. The
neighborhood sits right on the Halifax River, putting you right in the heart of
everything. On both sides of the bridge, there are plenty of great places to eat and the outstanding array of nightclubs if you are into the clubbing scene.
It's also the perfect place to live if you are into Bike Week as the area is invaded by motorcycles of every size, shape, and color this time of year. Best
of all, you are a ten-minute drive from the white sands of the World's Most
Famous Beach.
With summer temperatures in the 90s, you and Fido could spend a
lot of mornings taking in the ocean air as you walk along the surf. You can
even walk along the beach in January when the temperatures are in the upper 40s
and lower 50s.
What is the terrain like in Orange IslaPark?
This is a densely built-up area of town with the homes nestled in
with numerous automotive and motorcycle repair facilities. You might think this
would make it pretty hard to find anywhere for you to go walking. Thankfully,
there is a walking path running along the bank of the Halifax River all the way
down to City Island Park.
Along with this, you and your pooch can go walking around
as many blocks as you can handle to get in your daily exercise. The big thing
to remember is that during the summer months,
any paved surface exposed to the summer's relentless gaze is going to be too
hot to walk on. During these months, you should be taking your walks
with Fido during the early morning hours before the sun has a chance to come
up and turn everything into one giant melting pot that isn't fit for man or beast
to be out in.
How many greenways are there in Orange IslaPark?
Despite being in what appears to be a densely packed residential and commercial
area, there really isn't much in the way
of green space nearby. But all along this side of the Halifax River is a nice little park with a walking trail for you to go walking on. Enjoy the grass and the trail
but keep your pup on a leash, cleaning up any messes
they leave along the way.
Alternatively, there is a small island just offshore with
even more room for the two of you run around on and get in a little extra play time. If you need plenty of
room to run, however, your best bet is to make full use of the beach. Not only does the
soft sand offer challenging walks, but early in the morning when the beach is still
empty of tourists is the perfect time to go for a jog or a run together.
