Woodcliff Estates is a planned community located to the west of the Daytona Beach Golf Club. The single-family homes here surround a small lake and offer plenty of sidewalks for you and Fido to take your walks on. There are several small restaurants in the vicinity including both private and chain establishments to enjoy. Plus, you are within a short drive of some of the best places to eat in town. The same applies to finding a pet store or dog park. You are also a short drive from the nearest Walmart where you can pick up most brands of dog food.
Summers in Daytona can be too hot to take your pup out for a walk in the middle of the afternoon with temperatures in the high nineties and humidity to match. During this time of year, take your walks during the early morning hours after everything has had time to cool down.
Like most of the city, the terrain around Woodcliff Estates is pretty flat and uninteresting. Does this mean you and Fido have nothing to look forward to but day after day of boring walks? Only if you don't get creative!
The one big advantage you have here is the sheer number of residential blocks. They are carefully laid out in a grid-like pattern. To make your walks more interesting, try going in different directions each time, creating different walking routes. With multiple suburban avenues to wander, you'll find more than enough opportunities to mix your daily routine up with some variety.
If your pup is not used to walking on paved surfaces, give them time to let the pads on the bottom of their paws toughen up. Otherwise, the rough terrain can cause some discomfort and pain or can otherwise put a damper on an otherwise lovely walking day.
The nearest usable greenway for you to walk on or around is the Samuel L. Butts Archeological Park. This park is an aquatic and waterfowl preserve, built on the site of an archeological dig in which an explorer found hundreds of arrowheads, bones, and pottery shards from the Timucuan Indians who lived in the area some 1,500 years ago. He also managed to find skeletal pieces of a Wooly Mammoth from the Ice Age!
There is a paved walking trail that runs around the lake to walk on and plenty of grass for your pup. Just keep in mind that Fido must always be on a leash while you are walking in the park and as you walk to and from the park. Be sure you take a supply of bags with you just in case your pup decides they need to go while you are walking. Be a good pet owner and clean up after them!
