Wag! Walkers know Yorktowne Villas
Condo living in Daytona has been a way of life for decades. You get all of the advantages of living in a city where the weather is fabulous all year long without the hassle of trying to keep your yard looking good!
Living out here just off of Beville Road puts you within a short drive of the main part of town where you will find great restaurants and plenty of pet supply stores. As for dog-friendly parks, you're going to have to drive for one because the closest one is at the Halifax Humane Society.
Summers here are in the 90s with endless weeks of blue skies and only the occasional thunderstorm to deal with. Winters are exceptionally mild with temperatures typically in the 50s in December and the upper 40s in January. By February, the weather starts warming back up for Spring Break and the start of the NASCAR race season.
What is the terrain like in Yorktowne Villas?
The terrain here is a mix of condominiums, parking lots, and a small copse of woods right across the street. Going walking here won't exactly wear you out as the ground is quite flat and isn't likely to prove very challenging to all but the youngest, pudgiest, and eldest of dogs.
But, does this mean you can't get at least some exercise in? Of course not! To make more out of your walks, you can walk around the different neighborhoods to stretch your legs and help you and your dog get more out of your strolls.
One thing you should know is that during the months when the temperature is over 80°F, you need to check the pavement. Lay the back of your hand on the ground and if you can't hold it in place for at least ten seconds, don't expect Fido to walk on it. Start taking your walks earlier in the day to avoid these uncomfortable conditions.
How many greenways are there in Yorktowne Villas?
Out here, there tends to be a lot more green space than you will find further into town, but this doesn't mean that all green spaces are dog-friendly. For example, the Pelican Bay Golf Course is right next door, but is open to members only and may not allow dogs on the course.
A much better choice would be to cruise out to the 30,000 acres that make up the Tomoka Wildlife Management Area and Tiger Bay State Forest. As you enter the WMA, you will be amazed at how well the acres destroyed in the 1998 wildfires have rebounded. There are miles of trails for biking, horseback riding, and long hikes with your favorite four-legged hiking buddy. There are ponds to fish in, picnic areas for the family to enjoy sitting in the shade in, and a wealth of local animals and birds who call the WMA home.
