Top dog walkers in Oceanshore Blvd
Wag! Walkers know Oceanshore Blvd
Ocean Shore Blvd. is the name given to the section of the A1A running between the town of Flagler Beach and the beach itself. The only structure on the beach is the Flagler Beach Pier. Homes in the area range from large, expensive homes to smaller, older homes that have been here for decades. There are several condos, hotels, and assorted businesses. The A1A is lined with a sidewalk for most of the way from tip to tip of the town.
Veteran's Park is the perfect place to take your pup for a romp. Much of the beachside of the road, along with the A1A, had to be replaced after Hurricane Irma. Beyond the occasional hurricane, the temperatures are moderate, ranging from a low of 46 degrees in the winter to a high of 89 in the summer. Saving the best part for last, it never snows in Flagler Beach!
What is the terrain like in Oceanshore Blvd?
Ocean Shore Blvd. itself is a long strip of two-lane blacktop running from Gamble Rogers Memorial State Recreation Area to the south to Beverly Beach to the north. As for the terrain, it's mostly flat. In fact, it's flatter than it was before the highway was rebuilt. The road might be a little on the flat side, but the sidewalks still tend to follow the ups and downs of the land which can, at least, serve to add a bit more fun to your walks.
The only other option is for you and your dog to turn the beach into your private hiking trail. The dunes and soft sand can make your walks a little more strenuous on the trip out, then you can turn around and walk back on the wet sand for a little less stress on your joints. You and your pup can also splash around in the surf to cool off before heading home.
How many greenways are there in Oceanshore Blvd?
Beyond a few areas of green along the housing side and the strip of scrub brush that runs between the A1A and the beach, there isn't much in the way of 'greenway' along Ocean Shore Blvd. However, just off the beach on SR 100 is Veteran's Park where there is a large area of grass, a fountain, and benches to sit on. It's not much, but there is enough room for you and your pup to play.
A much better place to go hang out is the Gamble Rogers Memorial State Recreation Area at the southernmost end of Ocean Shore Blvd. Covering 144 acres, the park offers beachside camping, the Joe Kenner Nature Trail, and plenty of wildlife. The park does require your pooch to be on a leash and no dogs are allowed on the beach, but the nature trail is rugged and challenging. This should make a nice change from walking on paved surfaces.
