Wag! Walkers know Belle Meade
Located in the Upper East Side of Miami, Belle Meade is a private gated community that encompasses the Bayside Historic District and Belle Meade Island. This is a lively community within a short driving distance of incredible shopping, exceptional dining, wonderful parks, and some amazing beaches. The gated entry goes a long way to making the community safe for you and Fido to go walking.
If you choose to reside on the banks of the Little River and Biscayne Bay, these areas have docks allowing you to be in your boat in minutes and out having fun. However, to find parks and shops, you will need to leave the community and go for a short drive. Those who live here find the climate spectacular with mild winters that offer rain and low temperatures in the 60s during the day. If this isn't good enough, the summers are incredible with temperatures in the high 80s and the occasional rainstorm.
What is the terrain like in Belle Meade?
The terrain in Belle Meade is mostly flat with tree-lined streets and plenty of sidewalks for you and Fido to enjoy. The paths are wide with grass berms that give your pup a cooler surface to walk on once the weather starts to warm up. Keep in mind that temperatures as low as the mid-70s can heat the sidewalks up, making them uncomfortable. If you take Fido out for a walk when the temperatures are up, you should venture out during the early morning hours. This is before the sun has had a chance to heat everything up for the day.
You can also go for walks late in the evening, but the sidewalks may still be warm. If you lay the back of your hand on the pavement and cannot hold it there for a few seconds, the surface is still too hot for your pup's paws.
How many greenways are there in Belle Meade?
While small, the only park in Belle Meade is the Belle Meade Mini Park. This is a cool park with plenty of shade and room for the kids and Fido to play. If you have a boat and your pooch likes to go out on the water, you might consider going over to the Legion Picnic Islands out in the bay. These are small islands with plenty of trees and trails for you to explore, places for you to dock your boat, and beaches for everyone to enjoy.
Alternatively, you can drive down to Baywood Park. Baywood is considered a hidden gem as there aren't any signs indicating it exists on Biscayne Blvd. This a lovely stretch of a park with a trail for walking or jogging, plenty of grass, and a few shade trees. While this doesn’t sound like much, letting Fido run around on it will give them a chance to walk on grass instead of pavement.
