Biscayne Island is the first of the man-made Venetian Island Chain that straddles the Venetian Causeway. The first homes on the island were built in 1949 and, before this, the island had been used as an airport. Today, it's home to some of the most expensive homes in the city. It is also home to the Venetian Causeway Park which is a narrow space with plenty of grass, trails, and trees for you to enjoy walking and playing under.

Walking around the area requires extra care as the causeway is a bustling thoroughfare. You might almost think the sun never stops shining in Miami. Biscayne Island is a man-made island that once housed the Viking Airport which is the perfect way to say that the ground here couldn't get much flatter. This perfectly level ground was not only ideal for use as a runway, but also for the construction of the many luxury homes and condos on the island.
Getting in your daily walks can be challenging as walking from one end of the island to the other is not far enough to really test you and your pup after you have worked your way up to longer walks. You could do a few laps of the park, but you can always add in a walk over to San Marino Island over the causeway. The causeway has extra wide walkways so that you can feel safe on your walks. Exercise caution, however, on hotter days when walking on pavement can prove to be uncomfortable - or even painful - for your pup.

Biscayne Island is one of the two islands in the chain with a park. Venetian Causeway Park sits on the south side of the causeway and runs from the western tip of the island to the 1000 Venetian Way Condominium which is over half the length of the island. The park offers several trails to walk on, green grass, and shade trees to lean against while relaxing. The island also offers a spectacular view of the cruise ships as they come and go on their way to the Bahamas.
If you go over the causeway back to Miami and turn right on US 1, it will take you past the Margaret Pace Park where there is a dog park with two sections designed to keep the big guys away from the little guys. It's an excellent place to let your pooch run around without a leash and enjoy a little bit of freedom.
