Gables Estates is one of the most exclusive communities in the southern part of Florida, if not the country. Those homes sitting on the waterfront have access to deep water canals that have been dredged to accommodate the largest yachts. The homes here are small mansions running in price from $3 to $10 million and more. If you prefer to dine out, a short drive to US 1 yields a number of excellent restaurants to tempt your taste buds. Dog parks and pet supply stores are within easy driving distance.
Because Gables Estates is a gated community, you should have no problem taking your pup out for a walk and feeling relatively safe. The weather in this area will provide some fantastic atmosphere for your outings with warm winters and sunny summers offering plenty of days where you can venture out with your pooch.
There are several dog-friendly parks and preserves within a reasonable driving
distance. For example: the R. Hardy Matheson County Preserve which has walking
trails, plenty of shade, and a public boat ramp. It is up to you to be creative and find new
places to walk, new challenges to take on,
and make going for walks with your pup a lot more fun than just going around the
neighborhood over and over again.
The community itself has one small park. Leucadendra Park is a small oasis of green with a pair of tennis courts surrounded by trees. Along with this, there are several "empty" lots strategically placed where you and your pooch might be able to get in some much-needed exercise.
The nearest dog park is the South Miami Dog Park. Here, you will find a well-kept park that offers a single fenced-in area for pups to play in. This will give your pooch time to socialize with other dogs and make a few friends along the way.
North of the community you will find Merrie Christmas Park with plenty of grass and shade trees, a playground for the kiddos, and a walking trail for everyone to enjoy. You will have to keep your dog on a leash here, but there is plenty of room for both of you to get in a little play time.
