Wag! Walkers know Skylake
Skylake is a community of apartment complexes and
condominiums located on the lake. There are dog-friendly parks and pet supply
stores within driving distance along with several restaurants along NE 185th that are worth giving a try. Living here has the
advantage of being on one lake and close to a couple of others, offering fishing
and more. The main lake has a canal that leads all the way out to the coast! Each of the condos and apartment complexes has
plenty of grass around them or you can go across NE
191st Street where there is a vast green space with trails, trees, and lots of
grass to run around on, play fetch on, or simply go for long walks.
The
weather here is quite lovely. With winters that rarely dip below 60° and summers
that hover around the low 90s, you can take your pup walking almost every day
of the year.
What is the terrain like in Skylake?
The terrain in the community is flat with small areas of
grass in between the multi-story condos and apartment buildings. The only
outstanding features are the lakes and bodies of water and there isn't much
you can do with these with your pup. If you prefer to stick close to home,
you can go walking around the buildings take advantage of the
grass. This can be especially useful when the outside temperature goes over
75°F as the sidewalks start reaching temperatures that can burn the pads on paws severely. The best time of day in the summer to go walking and
avoid this problem is to go out early in the morning after everything has cooled down.
Alternatively, you can cross to the other side of the
road and take advantage of the grasslands surrounding the Presidential Estates
community where you will find several trails in areas of shade trees and
numerous ponds and small lakes.
How many greenways are there in Skylake?
Within the condo communities in Skylake, there are plenty of
open grassy spots to walk on, including several that lead right down to
the water. Most have palm trees and others scattered around as much for
appearance as for shade.
While there are several other pet-friendly parks
within driving distance, the easiest greenway to access is the buffer-land
around the Presidential Estates private community. The buffer is a wide swath
of grass dotted about with ponds and stands of shade trees. There are several
walking paths running through this area that are perfect for you and your pup to
check out. These trails run all the way around the outside of the community and
should be more than long enough to ensure you get the exercise you
need to stay fit and healthy. The grounds look like all that remains of what
might have once been an interesting golf course that has long since fallen into
disuse.
