Wag! Walkers know Wynwood Edgewater
The theme song "Movin' On Up" could easily have been written about the Wynwood/Edgewater area of Miami. Although the area does have a large population of single-family homes, it’s the sheer number of mid-rise and high-rise condominium and apartment buildings that make this area close to downtown so popular. In the past several years, the community has become one of the hottest in Miami. Located in the heart of the Miami Design District, there are boutique stores, art galleries, cafes, restaurants, and many unique businesses that combine together to give this area a chic, bohemian feel. Along with boutiques, a few big box department stores have a presence here as well.
The weather here is perfect for taking your pup out for a walk most of the year with winter temperatures hovering in the sixties and summers hanging out in the upper 80s to low 90. You never have to worry about snow in this balmy city!
What is the terrain like in Wynwood Edgewater?
The terrain here is a blend of wide open green spaces and concrete. For those who are just moving here, the type of terrain you get depends on where you choose to live. If you live over on the west side in the Wynwood area, you are more likely to have access to empty lots, large open fields, and parks.
If you live on the Edgewood side, you are more likely to find mostly paved surfaces for the two of you to walk along. The land here is mostly flat. If your dog is one of those pups who has succeeded in packing on a few extra pounds, starting out on flat ground for your walks could be a good thing. It gives you both plenty of time to work your up to a decent length of walk that helps burn off those extra pounds. It might even do you some good too!
How many greenways are there in Wynwood Edgewater?
Despite the fact that this area is heavily built-up, there are plenty of green spaces and parks for you and your pup to enjoy, no matter where you live.
Biscayne Park is a small grassy area next to the City of Miami Cemetery. The park itself is essentially a large field that can be marked off for soccer pitches or football fields. There's not much to do here but run around on the grass and get in some much-needed exercise.
Over on the shores of Biscayne Bay is Margaret Pace Park. This is an eight-acre park with waterfront access and plenty of benches to sit and watch the activities in the bay. More importantly, this place has a fenced-in dog park that is split into sections for large and small breed dogs. Please make sure you clean up after your pooch! So many people don't, making the park a bit of a mess on a good day.
