Wag! Walkers know Cavedo
Cavedo covers a large section of New Smyrna Beach spanning from Old Mission Road on the west to Yacht Club Island Estates to the east and from SR-44 at the northern border of the community to 10th Street at the southern end. Inside the boundaries of Cavedo is what you might expect to find in any community including schools, churches, plenty of places to eat, and shops you can buy supplies like dog food in.
Depending on what side of Highway US-1 you live on, you might enjoy some peace and quiet, or you might be close to the busy highway and all the noise it generates. The bulk of the area to the west of the highway is mostly large tracts of woods and small spread out neighborhoods. On the east side, the areas are far more densely populated and at the extremes is Yacht Club Island Estates, a very wealthy community.
What is the terrain like in Cavedo?
The terrain here is mostly flat and varies greatly. To the east, you have a densely packed area of homes and businesses that stays very busy all day long. The highway stays busy from early morning until very late at night. If you plan to walk your dog on this side of the road at night, you should probably walk with another person for added security.
On the west side of the highway, the story is quite the opposite. This side is far more rural and peaceful. There are large tracts of woods with trails running through them to enjoy, quiet roads that are not teaming with traffic all day long, and communities with homes that have large yards, assuring everyone of room to breathe and a little extra privacy. Along with being quieter, the lower volume of traffic makes it a lot safer for you and your pup to go for your daily walks.
How many greenways are there in Cavedo?
Again, you have this split of territory. On the west side are large fields and expanses of woods, some of which you can walk your dog in while others are off limits. To the northwest of your home are North and South Otter Parks. The parks are split by the New Smyrna Beach Multi-Use Trail. The parks offer plenty of trails for you and your pup to hike along.
Most dog owners like to be able to take their dogs to a fenced-in dog park where they can let their dogs run around off-leash. Luckily, you are only a ten minute drive from the New Smyrna Beach Dog Park. Here, you will find separate fenced-in areas for large and small dogs. Each has water fountains to keep them hydrated, lots of shade trees, and a shelter you can sit under while your pooch goes out and plays with the rest of the dogs in the park.
