Wag! Walkers know Glencoe
Glencoe is a section of rural homes on Pioneer Trail close to the landings at Sugar Mill. One of the great things about living in New Smyrna Beach is that, while there are densely populated areas of town, there are still a number of rural communities as well. More importantly, even though Glencoe is in a rural setting, you are within a few minutes of SR-44 where you will find a Publix grocery store, numerous chain restaurants, and a fast route into town where you can find everything else you could possibly need.
SR-44 will also take you to I-95 for a fast commute to Daytona, Jacksonville, and a connection to I-4 for the commute to Orlando. Alternatively, you can take it into town where it becomes the S Causeway that takes you to the beach in less than twenty minutes. The beach is an excellent way for you and your dog to get in long hikes in the sand.
What is the terrain like in Glencoe?
"Small blocks of flat ground with no sidewalks" is the best way to describe the area. But so too is it rural and relaxing. It all depends on how you look at it. Living out here in the "boonies" offers you an oasis of peace in an otherwise bustling world. You may see a little vehicular traffic during the morning and evening rush hours, but beyond the occasional service vehicle and the daily mail person, it's pretty quiet.
This is the perfect place to be when you want to take your dog out for a walk. But having said this, you still need to pay attention as both Pioneer Trail and nearby SR-44 are busy roads. There are several families with kids in the area, so be sure you keep an eye out for them and the school buses. If you plan to be out walking during pick up and drop off times, be sure you keep your dog on a short leash.
How many greenways are there in Glencoe?
The entire community is one large green space, but if you prefer a bona fide park, you are only a few minutes from Otter Park North and Otter Park South, two huge, heavily wooded parks connected by the New Smyrna Beach Multi-Use Trail. You and your pooch can use the trail to hike into the heart of town and back or out to I-95 and back, but be prepared to share the trail with other dog walkers, hikers, and cyclists.
The parks also have multiple trails running through them for you and your dog to explore in the shade on hot summer days. You can take your pup to the lake and let them take a nice cool dip in the water before setting out for the hike back home. The parks also offer you and your dog protection from cool winter breezes, so the two of you can still get in your daily walks.
