Wag! Walkers know Oakdale New Smyrna
Oakdale is a small manufactured home community at the end of Wickersham Road. Unlike many mobile home communities where you barely have room to breathe between neighbors, the lots here are spacious and heavily shaded. The homes sit close to the junction of Canal Street, Lytle Avenue, and SR-44. Despite being close to these major thoroughfares, the roads within the community are usually pretty quiet except for during the usual rush hours.
Living here means having access to amenities such as grocery and pet supply stores so you can keep everyone's stomach happy. If you can't find what you need nearby, there are plenty of other places to shop and eat within a short drive. Of course, you can be on the beach in ten minutes enjoying not only the sand and the surf, but more places to eat and shop, along with plenty of bars for the evening crowd.
What is the terrain like in Oakdale New Smyrna?
With two major roads on either side of you, the traffic can be bustling. Along with the accompanying noise, the area can be a bit overwhelming. But, like most things, you can get used to it in a little while. You won't have much traffic to deal with during the course of the day beyond those who live here going to and from work and their daily lives. Walking your dog through the area at any other time shouldn't present you with any particular problems beyond the occasional passerby.
While you could opt to walk your dog out on the main roads, the traffic might be too much for them. Instead, you will be much better off walking through the various residential communities where there are shaded roads and sidewalks for the two of you to use. Not only are they much quieter, but with all the shade, they are much cooler.
How many greenways are there in Oakdale New Smyrna?
The area here is quite green thanks to large shady lots, but when you need to go beyond this to areas that are large enough for the two of you to take long walks in, you will have to drive to them. Keep in mind that they are all within no more than a fifteen to twenty-minute drive of your home! The closest are the two halves of Otter Park. The dividing line is the New Smyrna Beach Multi-Use Trail which cuts between them and offers space to stroll.
To the east, you have the Spruce Creek Preserve, an area that covers over 1,600 acres and incorporates Florida woods and swamps, providing a home for hundreds of different species of animals. Here, you and your dog have miles of trails running through the preserve to explore. The trails run all the way to Rose Bay, a hike of three miles in each direction and one that is extremely popular with hikers and dog walkers.
