Wag! Walkers know Richmond
Richmond is a small neighborhood on the Indian River consisting of mostly larger homes. Those homes that sit on the riverbank have long piers with boathouses at the ends. From your yard, you can see Yacht Club Island and all the boats coming and going. The homes here sit on a cul-de-sac so you aren't likely to be subjected to much in the way of vehicular traffic.
Living here puts you close to several excellent restaurants and shops, some of which are within walking distance. The nearest dog park or pet supply store is a bit of a drive, but you can find just about anything within a ten to fifteen-minute drive no matter where you live in town. Living on N Riverside Drive takes you just far enough away from US 1 to be unaffected by the traffic flowing by, yet still close enough to it for easy commuting to Orlando, Daytona Beach, or anywhere else.
What is the terrain like in Richmond?
Living here means living on mostly flat ground with a river for company. The homes are quite large and expensive, yet right across Riverside Drive, you will find far more modest homes, a strip mall, and a number of restaurants to choose from. This tends to bring a lot of traffic in, but the housing areas offer at least a bit of a buffer. The area tends to be quiet, but there is an element of crime you should be aware of if you plan to take your walks later in the evening.
The traffic along Riverside Drive is generally pretty quiet. This makes it much safer for you and your dog to go for walks on the sidewalks alongside the road. Better yet, there is a wide swath of grass running north along the river the two of you can use for your daily walks. It makes for a lovely walk and a refreshing change from walking on the sidewalks.
How many greenways are there in Richmond?
The one thing missing from Richmond is anything in the way of green space. Fortunately, there are plenty of green spaces nearby for you and your dog to use for your daily outings. To start with, you can take a trip to the Doris Leeper Spruce Creek Preserve where you can hike along miles of trails running through more than 1,600 acres of forests, swamps, and scrublands on your way to the observation tower and all the way to Rose Bay.
Directly across the river is the Mosquito Lagoon Aquatic Preserve. This watery area covers hundreds of acres and is part of the Indian River Lagoon network. It's a great place to take your dog for a canoe ride along the waterways. Use your GPS or take someone with you who knows their way around the water or you could spend hours lost in here as local landmarks can be very hard to see from the water.
