The Sugar Mill Golf Townhouses can be found inside the Sugar Mills Golf Course close to the Sugar Mill Country Club. Unlike many of the single-family house communities within the golf course where the houses line the main streets, this condo community sits in a small closed loop set off the main road. However, this doesn't mean you are completely isolated.
Living out here gives you peace and quiet in a slightly more rural setting while still being only ten to fifteen minutes from things like grocery stores and pet stores where you can buy your dog all the food, treats, toys, and supplies they need. This also includes a selection of excellent restaurants ranging from fast food to fine dining. Of course, the beach is only twenty minutes away to the east, ensuring you and your dog can go for daily walks and log some serious distance in doing so.
Thanks to being in a small community with limited access, most of the traffic here is limited to those who live with the neighborhood and a few service vehicles. The only bad part about living here is a distinct lack of sidewalks, leaving you with nothing but the roads to walk on. The same applies to taking your walks outside of the area. The roads can be used to add miles to your hikes, but not all of them have sidewalks and some, like Club House Boulevard, are busy during the day.
One thing to keep in mind when living within a golfing community is that you are likely to see golf carts running around at just about any hour the course is open for play. Unlike cars, golf carts don't stop on a dime, so you need to keep a close eye out for them to ensure you and your dog are safe.
Being surrounded by green space you can't use to take your dog for walks can be very frustrating, but unfortunately, you're bound by the rules. However, you can use the woods to the east of you along with those in Daugherty's Todd Grant and Ward Higbee Trope Grant. The woods are full of trails the two of you can use to take your walks under the shade trees when the sun is high and hot.
Ten minutes to the south is the New Smyrna Beach Dog Park. This is a large dog park split into separate fenced-in sections for large and small dogs to provide for their safety. Each area has a water fountain to keep the pups hydrated. The park also offers a shaded pavilion for owners to sit in while their four-legged family member has a good time playing with the other dogs in the park.
