Wag! Walkers know Dunlawton Hills
The Dunlawton Hills community sits right behind the various medical offices along Dunlawton Avenue and close to the intersection with South Nova Road. The homes here are all duplexes arranged around a circular road. To the east is a small man made lake and a patch of woods. Dunlawton Hills is a busy family neighborhood located close to two of the busiest highways in town.
Being this close to Dunlawton may be a bit noisy at times, but it does give you direct access to the central shopping district in Port Orange. At the west end of this road is the I-95 interchange for those who commute to the north or south for work. At the east end of the road, after you have crossed over the Halifax River, your journey ends on the sands of the beach along the Atlantic coast where you and your dog are more than welcome to walk for miles.
What is the terrain like in Dunlawton Hills?
Within the Dunlawton Hills community, the only traffic you and your dog have to worry about is the morning and evening rush hours. The rest of the day is relatively traffic-free with the exception of every dog's favorite person: the mail carrier. However, this lack of hustle and bustle provides you and your dog with plenty of time to enjoy peaceful walks around the neighborhood.
With this area of Florida being fairly flat in the residential spaces, you shouldn't have to find yourself hiking up and down any steep grades. This is good news for pups who have mobility issues, particularly, or even dogs that are just not up for a lot of exercise. However, for athletic canines, you'll want to explore some of the nearby greenways to get your fill of space to roam.
This family-friendly neighborhood will also lead you right into quite a few other pedestrians. Keep this in mind if your dog is not particularly social!
How many greenways are there in Dunlawton Hills?
To the east is a manmade lake, but access is limited to those who live around it. Along with this, there is a small patch of woods, but access is difficult, at best. On the other side of Dunlawton Avenue is Memorial Park, a big artificial lake with a walking trail around it. You can use it, but to get there, you and your dog will have to cross Dunlawton which is a bustling highway during the day.
At the east end of Jackson Street is the Margaret Buschman Parcel and Buschman Park. Both offer your entire family and your four-legged friend a great place to enjoy the fresh air and sunshine with plenty of nature trails to hike on under the trees, a lake complete with a fishing dock and pavilion, and shady pavilions under the canopy where you and your family can enjoy a picnic together.
