Top dog walkers in Gordon Acres
Wag! Walkers know Gordon Acres
Gordon Acres is a small residential community along South Nova Road just to the north of the Nova Family Campground. The homes here are set back from Nova Road by an Italian restaurant and parking lot. South Nova is a bustling highway that runs through the entire Greater Daytona Beach area. You and your family will get used to the traffic noise in no time at all as this road does generate a significant amount of both!
From here, Dunlawton Avenue is only five minutes the south and is the main shopping area in town. Both sides of this road are lined with shops and other amenities. From grocery stores to pet supply stores, you can find it all here. Along with all this, you will also see the majority of the best restaurants in town.
The beach is less than fifteen minutes to the east and there are parks, nature preserves, and wildlife management areas with driving distance. You and your pooch can spend countless hours exploring.
What is the terrain like in Gordon Acres?
Within Gordon Acres, there are only a couple of streets with single-family homes, but no one thought to build in sidewalks for you and your dog to walk on. However, there is very little traffic here as long as you don't mind walking up and down the same street. If you cross to the other side of Herbert Street, you will find a sidewalk you can use to hike all the way to Clyde Morris Boulevard if you feel so inclined.
Alternatively, you can take your walks into the residential areas to the west. They offer sidewalks for your use and, in some areas, shade trees to help keep you cooled off on hot summer days. Be sure you keep your dog on a short leash to help maintain control when you come across the many children at play in these residential neighborhoods. The short leash and a firm, friendly, and instructive voice will help make each encounter a pleasant one for everyone.
How many greenways are there in Gordon Acres?
Across the street on Old Sugar Mill Road is the Dunlawton Sugar Mill Gardens. While you can't take your dog here, it is a beautiful place with botanical gardens and nature trails for you and your family to explore.
Just up the road is Reed Canal Park. This park offers a vast area of grass for you and your dog to run about and play on. There is a large lake to walk around and woods with nature trails to explore.
The beach is to the east at the end of Dunlawton Avenue. You and your dog can hike as far as you can handle in the dry, soft sand first to get a good workout in to start your day. Once you've reached the end of your outbound walk, turn around and walk back on the hard-packed wet sand as it's easier to walk on and can give you a chance to search for seashells as you head back to your car.
