Herrich Terrace is a pocket community of family homes on the corner of Orange Avenue and Ocean Avenue. Orange Avenue is home to a large selection of commercial businesses on the west side and can be a bustling street to live near. At the same time, US-1 to the east is one of the busiest highways on the east coast!
Living here puts you within blocks of Dunlawton Avenue. This is the second busiest highway in town and it is the main east-west interlink between the interstate, US-1, and the beach. From the junction of Orange Avenue or US-1 and Dunlawton, you can turn left and be on the beach in about five minutes or turn right and be in the central shopping district in the same amount of time.

What is the terrain like in Herrich Terrace?
There is no way around it: Herrich Terrace sits in a very busy area of town. On the west side, you have a steady stream of commercial traffic feeding the businesses on the west side of Orange Avenue. To the east, the constant drone of heavy traffic along US-1 presents an even bigger problem. Then there is the traffic on Ocean Avenue to deal with. There isn't much of a quiet place to take your dog out for walks during the day.
You will be much better off if you get out early in the morning before rush hour and the traffic starts to pick up. You may also find that if you cross Charles Street to the south and use the residential blocks there for your walks, the flat sidewalk will help make your trips a little safer. However, not all the streets have them, so you will still have to deal with walking on the streets and any traffic you encounter.

This park is open from dawn to dusk and offers a large area of grass to play on and a walking path that goes around the entire park. From here, you and your dog can use the wide grass berm to hike along the Halifax River all the way down to Dunlawton Avenue and beyond, once you cross over.
The beach is an excellent place to take your entire family for a day of fun in the sun and fresh ocean air. You can drive out on the sand, park your car, and have a picnic!
