Wag! Walkers know Southwinds Trails
The neighborhood of Southwinds Trails is close to the intersection of Madeline Avenue and South Clyde Morris Boulevard. While the bulk of the community is given over to single-family housing, it is also home to a Dollar General where you can find many items that come in handy in an emergency. To the north, your neighbor is the Southwinds Soccer Complex, a vast green field where you and your dog should be able to play when there isn't a game or training going on.
On the south side of Madeline Avenue is a Walmart Neighborhood Market. It's close enough to you that you can walk there! Here you can buy everything you need, including food and supplies for your canine companion.
There are a few parks within driving distance, including the local dog park. To the east is the beach with miles of sand and to the west is the Tiger Bay State Forest and Wildlife Management Area.
What is the terrain like in Southwinds Trails?
Like many suburban communities, the homes are packed close together, creating a tight-knit neighborhood of friends who look out for each other. Unfortunately, there aren't any sidewalks, leaving you and your dog with no choice but to start your walks out on the streets. The streets within the community tend to be quiet during most of the day and the only time they are busy is during the usual rush hours, so you'll want to exercise caution around these hours.
As a family-friendly neighborhood, you should expect to see younger children out playing during the day. When walking your dog, be sure to use a short leash and try to walk on the opposite side of the road for everyone's safety. Care should also be taken to walk against traffic and, when possible, use the walking trail that is part of the Southwinds Sports Complex along with the athletic fields.
How many greenways are there in Southwinds Trails?
The Southwinds Sports Complex offers a large green field that is used for soccer and other activities, but when it is not being used, you can play with your dog as long as they are on a leash!
For those times when you want to let your dog run around unhampered, the Seemore Memorial Dog Park is only a ten-minute drive south on Spruce Creek Road. With separate sections for large and small dogs, everyone can play off-leash safely. There are watering stations in both sections, plenty of grass, tons of shade, and benches for guests to relax on!
If you cruise out west on SR-92, it will take you out to Tiger Bay State Forest, which is part of the 30,000-acre Tiger Bay Wildlife Management Area. The area boasts miles of trails and spectacular scenery that only 20 years ago was devastated by the wildfire "Firestorm" of 1998. Today, the forests have regrown and are filled with hundreds of species of animals to hear and see.
