Wag! Walkers know Chatham Crescent (Ardsley Park)

Ardsley Park-Chatham Crescent Historic District, sometimes referred to only as Chatham Crescent, is located in the beautiful, historic Savannah, Georgia. This neighborhood is considered historic as it has almost 1,000 buildings or features of historical significance or that are deemed to add cultural value to the city. Largely a residential community, Chatham Crescent is composed of two distinct subdivisions with many large, two-story homes with beautiful porches and expansive yards. This neighborhood is also known for being one of the first in the city specifically designed to accommodate automobiles on the streets.

Savannah, Georgia is a popular tourist destination, the oldest city in the state, and is known for being the epitome of Southern charm. With distinct and luxurious architecture, Savannah is home to several history and art museums, one of the oldest historic societies in the country, a few colleges and universities, thriving performing arts venues, and delicious Southern restaurants.

Luckily, Savannah experiences very mild winters with only slightly chilly temperatures. However, the summer months are long, hot, and quite humid.

What is the terrain like in Chatham Crescent (Ardsley Park)?

Savannah is a pedestrian-friendly city and this historic district is no exception. You will find spacious sidewalks that are lined with grassy patches. Like many older cities, some of the sidewalks are cracked, worn-down, and a bit uneven, but there shouldn't be anything too hazardous in this well-maintained neighborhood. Additionally, most of the neighborhood has plenty of large, mature trees which will help you feel a bit cooler during those terribly hot and humid summer months.

Additionally, Savannah and Chatham Crescent are both relatively flat places, meaning your and your pup won't have to navigate steep hills on your daily walking routes.

The borders of Ardsley Park-Chatham Crescent Historic District include East Victory Drive to the northeast, Waters Avenue to the southeast, East 55th Street to the southwest, and Habersham Street to the northwest. East Victory Street is a rather busy roadway through Savannah, so it may have more traffic than the other, more residential streets.

How many greenways are there in Chatham Crescent (Ardsley Park)?

One of the reasons Ardsley Park-Chatham Crescent Historic District is such a unique neighborhood is the amount of the many local greenways. It is known for having a larger greenway with several smaller circular greenways throughout the neighborhood.

The largest greenway, Tiedeman Park, has a long paved walkway. You will frequently see local walkers, runners, and cyclists. Additionally, there are some general, open green spaces and a few benches to stop and rest. It also extends northward to connect to the smaller Baldwin Park. The smaller parks throughout the neighborhood include Theus Park, Guckenheimer Park, McCauley Park, and Solomons Park. Additionally, Hull Park, a non-circular greenway, can be found on the southern border of this historic neighborhood.

However, immediately adjacent to this neighborhood, you will find Daffin Park. Here, you will find many sports facilities, a swimming pool, a small lake, and a small dog park for Fido to socialize with other local pups!
