Beverly Woods is a small residential area in southern Chicago bordered by Mount Hope Cemetery on the west and Western Avenue on the east. While it's not recognized as one of the city's 77 neighborhoods, its residents consider Beverly Woods to be its own community. It's a very family-oriented area as is one of the more suburban parts of Chicago. There are a few restaurants and shops on Western Avenue, but for the most part, Beverly Woods is mostly single-family homes set along quiet residential streets.

Beverly Woods is the place to go if you're looking for a quiet walk away from the hustle and bustle of downtown Chicago. The weather in the city changes with the seasons with the best walking temperatures in the spring and fall. The winter and summer see the most dramatic temperature changes, so check the weather before you head out and make sure your pup is protected!

Beverly Woods is comprised of blocks of homes stretching about a half mile, so there isn't a lot of room for green spaces. However, many of the sidewalks feature grassy verges protecting pedestrians from the road, so there are spots to stop for a quick bathroom break if need be. While most of the roads are lined with pretty foliage, some of the side streets don't have sidewalks. Those streets are easily avoidable though, as you just stick to the sidewalks.

The neighborhood is very small, only a half-mile long and 0.3-miles wide, making it easy to circle the neighborhood a few times. No need to worry about inclines, either. The flat streets offer a very easy walk through a quiet residential area which can be perfect for older dogs or dogs that are not so physically inclined. However, if you're looking for more of a challenge, you may need to venture outside of the area.

There is an obvious lack of parks within neighborhood limits, but there's plenty within walking distance. The Blue Island Bark Park sits just off the southwest corner of Beverly Woods, and for a yearly membership, you and your pet have access to a grassy area with trees, benches, water stations, and complimentary litter bags. There is a railroad next to the park, so watch your pet if you need to cross it. In addition, Kennedy Park is just a short walk north of the neighborhood. This 18-acre space features walking paths that wind around different fields and an outdoor pool. In any area that has other dogs and pedestrians wandering, you'll want to keep your pup on a leash unless the area is fenced in and specifically dedicated for dog use. Otherwise, remember to be polite to other visitors to the area and clean up after your dog when necessary.
