If you stick to these blocks, you can bicycle or walk with your dog on a loose leash without being worried about traffic throughout much of Bowmanville.
Winnemac Park is just below Bowmanville and is a great place to let your dog run on a loose leash or play a game of ball in the pleasant tree dotted field surrounded by ball fields. For more varied terrain and to let your dog off-leash to play with her friends, head towards the river.

This small preserve has a natural lake with a simple natural trail running around the lake and through the little patch of forest.
For as much natural wilderness as you can stand, go west to the river and all of the beautiful settings and amenities here. Your dog can play with her friends off-leash at the River Park Dog-Friendly Area or you can follow the north branch of the Chicago River for many miles up the N. Shore Channel Trail which provides gorgeous views of the river. Trails meander through tree cover and grass throughout this park area. You can follow the trails on both sides of the river through lovely landscaping and periodic playground and ball fields for a diverse and natural walk.
